been some good stuff lately. Thanks for that

at the start they talk about how staying up in 2006 was so crucial to winning the FPT in 07 and then the big one in 08

2012 had the same impact, I think, because at the half way point of that season we were win-less and miles adrift at the bottom of the table. I think that was the point that Colly took over and we won 5 of the last 8 matches (was it the last 5? I think we won 5 on the trot) to finish comfortably mid table and set ourselves up for a completely unexpected Championship title in 2013

Aye...... it took a shafting for us to be relegated, because we'd always found a way for the cricket to keep us up when it mattered....... FTECB!

I wonder if this year every first div team will be relegated and handed massive points deductions next year for requiring financial help from their pay masters?

Nope- Satan's little helper is no longer in charge or at least is on his dying embers.

Pure conjecture but as DF as pointed out cricket is almost unique amongst sports in that it could be played and still confirm to social distancing mandates. As could normal CC attendances. Deckchair Casuals probably wouldn't conform mind

Yes!

After two early setbacks, it feels like a bit more pressure is on this game. There are some big egos that need to step up to the plate a bit more. The last 2 matches could have gone either way, one a narrow win and the other a narrow defeat. There is no lack of experience in this side... they have the tools at their disposal

Thorp got the nod ahead of Plunkett

Durham lost the toss and were asked to bat first. Will Smith continued his spell of good form, and was involved in half century partnerships with Diva and Benks, but that was about as good as the first innings got and Durham slid to a disappointing 217 all out. Warwickshire didn't have it all their own way in their first knock and were indebted to Will Porterfield's 112 and his 6th wicket stand of 91 with Laurie Evans to take a 67 run lead at the half way point. The early loss of Smith for 0 did not seem to affect Durham second time around as a century stand between Diva and Stokes and a 99 run stand between Diva and Benks settled the home side's nerves. Durham went on to score 334, a lead of 267. Despite Durham taking regular wickets a fine 103 by Trott almost inflicted a 3rd defeat, but time ran out for the visitors.

Durham 217
Smith 60

Warwickshire 284
Davies 4-65
Harmison 2-55

Durham 334
DiVenuto 93
Stokes 67
Benkenstein 53
Collingwood 49

Warwickshire 253-6
Davies 3-56
Onions 3-82

Match drawn

At least there are signs that Diva and Benks might be pulling themselves out of a period of poor form. The form of the change bowlers continues to be of concern.

Possibly, but the other 6 and the curry were OK.
Mentioned elsewhere today that Phil used to play in goal for Seaham Red Star in Northern League circa 2003.

mixed fortunes on the road for Durham for their 40 over double header at Wantage Rd and Grace Rd, falling to a 7 wicket defeat to Northants before rallying to beat Leicester by 3 wickets.

A first outing for Gordon Muchall who had been in good form for the 2nds. Rushworth joined Plunkett and Breese as Durham adopted a pace off the ball approach. Sadly Colly took this too literally and opted to open the bowling himself against Northants in an attempt to defend a paltry 184 all out. He did pick up the wickets of the 2 openers, but Northants were not to be denied as Jumble Sales and Andrew Hall knocked off the required runs with 8 overs to spare.

Durham 184 ao
Mustard 34

Northamptonshire 185-3
Collingwood 2-31
Blackwell 1-34

Northants win by 7 wickets

Durham bounced straight back at Grace Rd after restricting Leicsetershire to a modest 206-8. Blackwell was the beneficiary of some tight Durham bowling by picking up 3 wickets as Leics tried to up the tempo late on. After a stuttering start to their reply, the excellent Smith combined with DiVenuto and then Collingwood to bring Durham home with ease

Leicestershire 206-8
Blackwell 3-61
Plunkett 1-20
Rushworth 1-38

Durham 210-7
Smith 94
Collingwood 38
DiVenuto 36

At this early stage in proceedings, Durham lie in 3rd place on NRR with Leics, Northants and Warks all on 4 points. Surrey and Hants have 2 points and Scotland 0

Durham now miss a round of CC so their next match is a home 4 day fixture against Somerset

good luck boys... get some practice in!
