Malan showed what he can do if he gets a second chance, so we'd better not drop him before he gets going

I said this last week

it's as if I knew

Going by the forecast we may not get any play before lunch but this afternoon looks a bit better. The % chance of rain is declining after lunch.

I'm a couple of miles out of Chester-le-Street and the weather is improving. Brightening up and the rain is now just drizzle so I'd be surprised if play doesn't resume at some point this afternoon.

probably over by now.

no... 16 runs needed. Malan the only wicket to fall caught by Dickson :o and bowled by Lees!

a match to forget really, after 11 months of waiting

Malan and Brook must have got the long handle out early in case it rained again, because it can't have taken long to rattle off 50 runs (I'm sure Yorks needed 68 today)

Another year on and we are still doing the same things wrong

we said last year when things were really grim that in most matches another 100 first innings runs would have given us a real chance to win the games

same here. Another 100 runs (we're only talking 200 all out, not like we're asking for the world), and hold onto the Malan catch and this game could have turned out very differently. Instead we're always on the back foot after day 1, because we fall down in the first innings..... often in the first session of the innings.

Always playing catch up, and it just won't do

Yes. Very poor. And,, after the bowlers and then Lees & Bedingham repaired the damage it was a shocking capitulation. The only partial excuse can be that the batsmen are bound to be rusty. I think though that without the class of Bancroft, whatever lineup we put out is likely to struggle to post decent scores .

Abject display from the captain. Starting with the toss, total of 6 runs in 2 innings and then giving up when over 30 runs still required.

Squad for tomorrow is the same 13 from the Yorkshire game with the addition of Carse.

Carse will play, so I'm guessing Potts will make way
