I'm still not confident about our chances but this has to go down as a good day - bowlers did just about enough to limit the damage and a surprisingly solid start to the second innings.
Although a run out - unless it was pure misfortune- seems a strange way to lose a wicket given the match situation.

Run outs always irritate me at the best of times, but given the match situation and with mountains of time left in the game the batsmen have no business taking risky runs. Still... it has been a better day and finishing 10 runs ahead for the loss of only 2 wickets represents a decent effort. What we mustn't now do is lose 2 or 3 quick wickets in the morning, so concentration needs to be high.

I don't know if he was at fault but a run out often seems on the cards when Lees is batting. Although he has proved to be a very good signing and may well hold the key. There's every chance of the quick wickets going down! I think we need him to get a big hundred.

Lees fault -direct hit but risky 3rd run nevertheless.

I find this link best for scores as it gives video link for key moments.

Yes, a good site. Taking a risky 3rd run given the match situation is a sign we are returning to normality! They were digging in and soaking up the pressure and then do that! Although I suppose if runs were hard to come by the temptation was there!

It's no surprise that Boycott and Lees form a mutual admiration society-both selfish sods.

ESPN report mentions 100 spectators in attendance at the Robery Lane ground and asks why the 15000 seat capacity has to remain empty. Another one of life's mysteries!

No doubt many more than that strolling/picnicking around the parkland adjacent to the ground. Whilst I'm happy enough with Durham's position at the start of day 3 if I could have been in attendance on the 1st 2 days I might have been joining those in the parkland. Been pretty attritional cricket.

Yes. Very slow going. And that report mentioned possible showers on day 4.
Thing I don't get is that months ago when a bit of the lockdown was eased to allow outside meeting it wss done because they said the risks of outdoor transmission were very low. They must surely be even lower now.

The lead is over 100 but Bedingham is out for 77. That's pretty impressive on debut at the Riverside.

just as things were starting to look better. 221-3 becomes 229-7 in a heartbeat

134 lead won't cut it. They'll need at least another 50 and even then I doubt that we could defend that against Yorks. Fisher the destroyer

2 runs added in the last 6 overs. Far from being critical, I think the match situation demands that we bat like limpets

Raine falls now (no pun intended)

the last 3 batsman have perished without scoring and the one before that scored 2

Just won't do.... especially given that Lees and Harte took 11 overs off the new ball before the carnage began

car crash cricket

last year in the same situation, I would have put money on Eckersley batting long and giving us something to defend
