Nottinghamshire had an abysmal performance last year with 10 losses from their 14 games. The team did not manage to win a single game and ended with the wooden spoon. As a result, they have been relegated and enter the virtual County Championship as part of division 2.


The team will take on Durham who did not have the greatest of seasons themselves as they finished mid-table in division 2 with 5 wins and 5 losses from 14 games.

Alexander Lees was the top-scorer for Durham last year with 899 runs from 14 matches with three centuries and three half-centuries. But with Ben Stokes available for the virtual County Championship in the times of the lockdown, he is obviously the foremost choice for acing all the three departments.

Opening batsman Cameron Bancroft, who did not have a great time in Ashes but did well in the 2019 County Championship, will also be among the top run-scorers for the team. Despite dealing with injury issues, Mark Wood will be the man with the ball for Durham.

Nottinghamshire will bank on Steven Mullaney, who was the top run-scorer in the last season along with Ben Duckett and Chris Nash. Stuart Broad and Jake Ball will lead the bowling pack for Nottinghamshire.

Sussex won the toss in beautiful conditions and chose to bat. An important toss to win given that the last 3 days were forecast to be played under leaden skies. Durham made a good start with the ball as the opening combination of Davies and Onions put Sussex firmly on the back foot. Sussex managed to put together half century stands for the 4th and 7th wickets, but subsided to a well below par score of 209. Durham's reply fared little better falling to 130-6 before rallying under the watchful eye of Ian Blackwell who marshalled the tail well to set up a first innings lead of 64. Sussex relied heavily on Chris Nash and Ollie Rayner to post 302 in their second innings leaving Durham a target of 239. Spin, however, once again proved to be Durham's undoing as Panesar ripped out Durham's top order. An obdurate Paul Collingwood in full Brigadier mode, guided his side from 77-3 to 202-6 to close in on victory, but once Panesar found his edge to complete his 5fer, the rest quickly followed him back to the pavilion.

Durham began their 40 over campaign with a straightforward victory over Scotland. Batting first Durham posted a steady total of 229-7, built around Ben Stokes who came in half way through the first over and batted through to the end for a magnificent 135 which featured 22 fours and 2 sixes. The total may have been no more than competitive, the required run rate under 6 an over, but it proved far too much for Scotland who were bowled out for 159 in the 29th over. Plunkett and Thorp reduced Scotland to 65-3 by the end of the 12th over, before Blackwell, Breese and Collingwood combined to take wickets steadily, strangle the run rate and secure a 70 run win. Chris Rushworth inexplicably didn't bowl a ball

Div 2 #DurvNotts Day 1 A classic tale of a day of 2 halves. Broad (3/86) and Ball (4/73) dominated the morning reducing the home team to 45/6 after winning the toss this however changed with the weather conditions. Durham rallied in some early summer sunshine to finish the day on 304 thanks in no small part to Raine (65), Wood (59*) and Weighell (58.)

There was a story in The Times suggesting no spectator sports are likely to resume until at least July! Although there was a suggestion in another article that behind closed doors football games may resume earlier!

There was a story in The Times suggesting no spectator sports are likely to resume until at least July! Although there was a suggestion in another article that behind closed doors football games may resume earlier!

Pure conjecture but as DF as pointed out cricket is almost unique amongst sports in that it could be played and still confirm to social distancing mandates. As could normal CC attendances. Deckchair Casuals probably wouldn't conform mind
