Yes! That's what came to mind. I can't understand it - even if T20 is not Eckersley's speciality ( and we must assume that's the view of the coaches) he would surely be a better option given the alternative. I wonder if Coggers is vice-captain?

He was a very worthy player and a decent bloke. I wish him well in his retirement

Very unlucky not to have played more for England. His Lancashire end of career stint was impressive. 100 plus wickets at a fine average.

Well done to him. Excellent career. Shame about the injuries.

Some moments for England he won't forget.

I remember Lily Allen saying he was the most attractive in the England side. Don't know why that stayed with me.

I'd forgotten about that!

Oh dear! He'll be pleased to be described as an all-rounder! Although I seem to remember him surviving for an unlikely amount of time at number 11 a few years ago to help Kent draw a game against us they had seemed certain to lose.

Finally some good news. Borthwick is coming back next season according to the Evening Standard.
https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/cricke ... 42731.html

He's been offered a 5 year contract according to Martin Emmerson. It sounds as if it's a done deal but I'm not counting my chickens until he puts pen to paper. Fairly modest average for Surrey but I'm not too worried about that. Even a partial return to his old form will vastly improve the team.
