Loads of wickets and loads of runs in Port Elizabeth today as Gauteng faced off against Eastern Province. EP are top of the table with Gauteng in third.

EP won the toss and elected to field and got Gauteng out within 68 overs - however they scored a decent 239. This was largely down to Delano Potgieter's 122*.

EP Had 27 overs of their own to face and were 94-2 at stumps.

EP are pressing for the win approaching the final day. After scoring 239 they got Gauteng out for 210 before going for 174-6 in the seconf - a lead of 203. Dominic Hendricks was their main batsmen, falling 7 short of his century. It is an apposite time for Hendricks to rear his head again; ten years ago he was the leading run taker in the Under 19 World Cup. Rather a let down from prestigious things.

An lunch time declaration after putting on another 100 should make for a juicy last two sessions.

EP will be kicking themselves for not declaring as they ended up with a draw as they needed just one further wicket to beat Gauteng as time ran out on the day.

After getting all out for 239 in their second innings(their exact same total from their first innings), they set Gauteng 268 to win.

Delano Potgeiter then set about dismantling Gauteng as he did in the first innings dismissing their opening batsman before gutting their middle order to finish the match with 9 wickets. However Gauteng just about held in there and escaped with the draw.

An intriguing final day is in the offing between North West and South Western Districts.

After batting first and getting 196, NW got SWD out for just 91. NW then declared on 146 - leaving SWD needing 252.

They have gone to stumps on 69-2 with that taget now 182 away. Not beyond the realms.

In terms of individual achievement, it was a SWD player who impressed the most with Tsepo Ndwandwa getting a fivefere in NW's second innings.

After playing sensibly as Day Two closed out, South Western Districts reverted to form on Day Three and lost their eight wickets for the gain of 110 runs and lost this game.

Henro van Rensburg rounded off a good game for himself with three of the SWD wickets to add to his 4 in the first innings.

North West pull away from South Western Districts to show that the gap between fifth and second bottom is rather large.

With half term on the horizon, I thought I would keep my eye on two games this week.

First off is a top vs bottom match with first placed Eastern Province playing KwaZulu-Natal Inland.

The bottom place team chose to bat first and got a passable total of 236 with the EP bowlers being more profligate than normal. It is perhaps telling that the best figures of the day in terms of wicket was 4 from Thomas Kaber who ended with an economy of 4.12.

EP batted for 28 overs in the evening session and were 58 for no loss.

In the second match South Western Districts and Border are both bottom of the table and winless - but SWD had the best of the day as they got Border out for 168 and then were 48-0 at stumps. Tsepo Ndwandwa was the pick of the bowlers with 4-62 from 28 overs.

A century from Tristan Stubbs saw Eastern Province take a decent first innings lead against KwaZulu-Natal Inland. The log leading team got a 114 run lead - a total that KZNI chipped away at to get to stumps at 14-0.

In the other game South Western Districts' lead is huge as they piggy backed off a score of 162* from Jean du Plessis to take their lead over Border to 152 as they reached stumps on 320-3.

Any hope of a result in the game between KwaZulu-Natal Inland and Eastern Province was dissipated as the day wore on and Cody Chetty made that even more of a certainty as he batted slow and steady and ended up on 119* at stumps with KZIN on 262-5 - a nominal lead of 148. KZIN were bottom of the table with EP at the top at the start of this fixture so the draw is a good result for them.

In the other game South Western Districts declared overnight and then got Border out for just 189 - leaving them an easy chase of 37. Tsepo Ndwandwa got his second fourfer of the match to help SED on their way.

It seemed pointless to do daily posts on this round of fixtures as it was clear that rain would render all games a draw...and so it came to pass.

One player marked themselves out as being worthy of credit in the match between Free State and Easterns. Sean Whitehead got cracking figures of 6-27 in 12.3 overs and then was the highest scorer with the bat for Free State with 80. Lamentably all for naught.

The game between Border and KwaZulu-Natal is bound for a draw but is note worthy for a huge innings from Bradley Porteous who got 171 of KZN's 315 declared.

Border went to stumps on 17-0.

Shows what I know. KwaZulu-Natal managed to wrap this up easily.

Led by 4-37 from Zakariya Paruk, KZIN managed to get Border all out for 211 and polished off the 21 runs they needed in just over a quarter of an hour. Fans of Lytham CC will be looking forward to Paruk turning out for them this Summer.

The win takes them to second position; whilst Border remain winless.

Always find bottom of the table games good for a chuckle and Border vs KwaZuluNatal Inland have not disappointed.

Border won the toss and elected to bat...and were promptly all out for 92. KZNI are faring better going to stumps on 153-6.

The main beneficiary from this stodgy batting was Kurtlyn Mannikam who got figures of 5-21 from his 17.3 overs.

KwaZuluNatal Inland wrapped up a famous victory in two days to make Border's position look even more dire.

KZIN got another 124 runs before getting Border out for an improved second innings total of 160 - but still 25 short of making them bat again.

Gareth Dukes was the inspiration for their late batting surge as he got 81* off 103 balls.

It was a day of two very different batting performances today between Eastern and South Western Districts.

Easterns won the toss and elected to field, promptly dismissing SWD for 161 in 50 overs. Clayton August's 5-46 were the best figures.

They then batted for 40 overs and surpassed that score for the loss of just one wicket - they went to stumps with a 13 run lead.

Easterns declared on the numerically pleasing number of 444-9 taking a 283 run lead into the second innings. Wesley Coulentianos was the main impetus for Easterns as he was the second player to get a century in the innings.

Easterns then got South Western Districts to 61-5 - a rallying towards the end of the day took them to 101-5 but it will take a gargantuan effort for SWD to pull this out the fire.
