perhaps the ECB will decide to go back to two divisions of 9, 16 matches each, then schedule the matches so early and so late in the season that they'll only half the fixtures will need to be played....... ease the risk of player burn out!
All the counties will be able to increase the cost of their membership packages to allow for all the extra matches that members won't be able watch
everyone's a winner
well..... except cricket, of course
and the punters, but then they've never mattered, so no worries

One journalist was suggesting playing a round of matches abroad!

of course
Aggers suggested that 8 counties ought to be axed/subsumed
England fail to regain the ashes because they spent 4 years picking a shed load of white ball specific players instead of red ball ones and nearly half the cricket fans in the country should sacrifice their team to put it right?
Now... I wonder... does that mean combining Surrey and Middlesex

Hey.... Esssex might cut a deal, just to give them a chance
I wonder what Somerset will do to their pitch next year in order to try and win their first title?

Going from memory, 2nd half of September weather has been mostly reliable this decade. I think the last time it significantly rained then was in 2012, but the domestic season finished earlier.
It's difficult legislating for rain in England anyway. It makes more sense to play games up until the Autumn equinox than start a season in the 1st week of April, when the wickets are soft and fresh. April and September have been mostly dry whilst it was rained a fair bit between early May and mid August.

The only 3 teams to have never won the County Championship are Somerset, Gloucester and Northants, I think. Well all 3 will get the chance next year
