Even if the weather is quite poor, it's not as if the match will need all four days. If Somerset prepare the pitch which we all expect them to (not just in order to try and win, but also to rule out any chance of Essex accruing enough extra bonus points that the final result becomes irrelevant), the match might not even need two days worth of playing time to reach a conclusion.
Someone will be ending this season by winning the double.
Somerset aren't going to prepare a "turnton" with Harmer in the opposition ranks. Unfortunately, the weather suggests a draw.
Harmer is a threat regardless of the surface, I would suggest. And in any event, I'd always be more comfortable with taking the positive stance of playing to your own strengths, than the negative stance of trying to negate the opposition's strengths. They've named all three of their spinners in their squad.
But first and foremost, Somerset need to take 20 Essex wickets in amongst the rain. I really don't see that they have any option but to prepare a turner.
