I don't want to see Somerset fiddle their way to a first title. I'm always happy to see someone pip them to the post. Today's loss has dealt them a severe blow

Next season will be interesting. Somerset's head groundsman is moving across to us, as the permanent replacement for our head groundsman who moved up to Lords last season.

Apparently he's been in the job at Somerset for 10 years. So seven years creating the flattest pitch in the country, followed by three years of something out of the sub-continent. So what are we in for?...

depends on whether you fancy trying to re-sign Afridi for the T20, I suppose

The fact that we're trying to get Lyon as our overseas player is quite telling.

Then again, it might just be because of the move back to playing t20s throughout the season (rather than in a block), which means you ideally want an overseas player who can play four day cricket and t20 cricket.

are they playing T20's throughout the season? I thought they were playing first T20's and then Hundred in the summer and using the spring and the autumn for CC

I know that the T20 QF's will be done and dusted by the time the Hundred starts, because T20 finals day will apparently be held in early Sept, 6 weeks after the QF's

My understanding is based on what I've heard from a number of BBC commentators. County Championship from Sunday to Wednesday (or Monday to Thursday), followed by a t20 on the Friday (or Saturday).

Presumably a few other t20s would have to be thrown in too - for example in a midweek when when two counties both aren't in Championship action - otherwise the t20 group stage & QFs won't be completed by the time the Hundred starts.

I'll certainly be happy with Friday night T20's. Presumably the ECB don't want to risk loads of top players playing in anything not called the Hundred

T20 group stages will be completed before the Hundred commences in mid-July with Hundred finals day scheduled for 15th August-thankfully it only last 4 weeks.
The draft plan below published last week is quite amusing until you realize it's not a spoof but reality.
