Sol Bell included in the squad for the season finale...and so is Poynter. The first pick makes sense but no idea why Poynter is included unless he's making up the numbers.

Fitness doubt about Eckersley perhaps.

That could be it. Watling might not fancy deputising behind the stumps.

maybe we are giving Poynter one last hurrah before he ***** off? Nothing riding on the match, of course.

That could be it, forgot Watling was a w/k. Maybe goodbye to Rimmers and Leprechaun, so twelvers duties.

Or pointer is giving up his Ireland qualification? He is from London. There was talk at Lord's that that is what Murtagh is going to do. It was not an option for McCarthy.

Before Poynter was given the captaincy for the T20 one of the regulars at the ground told me he was well liked/respected by the powers that be. If that is the case - and the T20 role suggests it is - then maybe they do want to retain him. Although I'm not sure why they would.
Unless it is just 12th man duties with some of the other players away for some reason doing whatever it is they do after the season. Or as westoelad says maybe Eckersley is a fitness doubt.
Don't think the forecast is great after today so it might be just as well this isn't an important game for us. It'll be interesting to see how Glamorgan approach it - still in with a slight chance of promotion but I think they need a win with significant bowling points and other results to go their way.

Must have been a lot more over night rain than I thought. Delayed start with an 11.15 inspection.

According to Martin Emmerson the wicket they had prepared is saturated so they're going to use another one. And the Blotter broke down on the ground raising the prospect of having to take an early lunch! Engineer has fixed it so we should get underway at 11.30.
I know nothing about pitch preparation but wonder what sort of condition the one they have been forced to use will be in?

Play starting at 12 with an 11.30 toss. Bell is making his debut.

Sounds then that water got under the covers again. Need to rectify this-it would be goodbye internationals for good if it happened for an international game.

Yep. That would be disastrous.

Burnham out in the over before tea and Bell in with 3 balls of it left. I thought a wicket in the over before a break was the last ball of the session ?What a time to come in on debut - thankfully he survived the over.
140/4 with Watling on 60.

Bell out for 1! At least he got off the mark on his debut. Think there's enough happening off the pitch to make 143/5 not a bad score - better than usual anyway!
Apparently Glamorgan need to win with maximum points to stand any chance and even then it's highly unlikely to be enough. I'd say the chances of them scoring 400 here are non existent.
