Got to assume he was no injured and only to bat in an emergency.

That's what I was thinking. A big hitter like him would have been much more use up the order. Unless the Northants coach rang Jon Lewis for advice on limited overs batting orders.

Yeah but Jon wasn't terribly clear " Hmm, could be , not sure, possibly". Thanks Jon.

That Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire game is one of those ones that the scorecard tells you more than reams and reams of articles.

Have to assume that the boundary rope was 2 yards away from the inner circle.

Proper village cricket. I'll be playing an evening friendly at a ground where one side of the boundary is five yards away from the square.

They talk about changing the schedule of the cricket to let players rest but this period is pretty frenetic. Essex and Gloucestershire have played two games on consecutive days and the same is about to happen with other teams. There seems to be an indecent haste to get these 50 over games out of the way, as one might with unruly children before the arrival of rich Aunt Agatha.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

Yet there's no mention of it in the cricinfo report.

 A great way of describing it. I agree they mostly seem to be randomly slotted into the schedule. Keep having to double check if an upcoming game is 20 or 50 overs.
