Good start to the season for Jamie Porter of Essex, who must be top wicket taker including both divisions.

Yes, 21 at 17. Then Napier and Barker.

Moeen Ali goes for 21 in his last over. It's difficult to really see him as the test front line spinner.

8 overs in the 1st innings and 8 overs in the 2nd innings, at this rate Moeen is going into the Sri Lanka series undercooked (assuming he does make selection). I feel England should have one eye on India/Bangladesh and select a genuine spin bowler for the summer.

Rashid isn't a plausible lone Test spinner, maybe a support spinner who bowls at the end of the game. England would have to go back to Tredwell (who isn't playing for Kent) or persevere with someone like Riley (who is). I suspect they'll stay with Moeen. This isn't the time of the season for spinners, so it doesn't seem profitable to judge Moeen, or any spinner, on their current performances. Unless someone excels. And no one is.

A Lions tour to Asia, or even two, ahead of the tour to India next winter might have been useful. But they seem to be prioritising limited overs formats at the moment.

Essex get what will probably be the only win of the current fixtures, with Porter and Napier maintaining form.

It says something when Azharullah survives more balls than anyone else in the second innings. Too many starts and then out.

I haven't checked but I presume that we lost badly.

An innings and 92 runs.

Could have been worse I suppose. Sigh.
