Its a bit of a grey area as at the start of the year the club announced that he had a minor issue that might keep him out for a game, but then he apparently had problems with his wrists that flared up with his back, and he missed the second game. After that its been a case of seemingly no progress, with him stuck in the "he might be fit next week" category, but never seemingly getting fit.

I dont think there is an underlying personal issue, but who knows.

All I know was the first game at Northants he had back problems that lingered and that he missed pre-season with them. And then against Leicestershire it was decided that a long lingering problem from the winter playing in Pakistan's Super League required a small minor surgery that would heal within the time frame of another missed game, and a decision was taken that while his back was nearly healed, it was better to kill two birds with one stone and give him the overdue surgery and have him back for Essex.

Through this period the club have been adamant to quash any theories that have emerged that his back is a major problem. They have stated its minor and that he is very close to full fitness.

But now its two months and still nothing. And I believe he didnt even spend the current match with the team, as he was tweeting pictures with his family saying that he was enjoying the good weather.

He could be back next game, he could be out all season...

Its pretty bloody annoying though. We finally get him for the full season instead of running to IPL, and low and behold he gets frigging injured!

Some skeptics on the Sussex board have questioned whether or not his decision to avoid the IPL was more to do with this fitness issue, but thats simply speculation.
