Chesney Hughes out for 96...just four short of his ton. Still, a good start to the season for the man from Anguilla.

According to The Times , Essex have said he won't be making any public comment but quote an anonymous team mate as saying he " was not happy" at being pressurised into wearing it. Article also mentioned that Jonathan Trott is using a helmet with the old style grill because he believes the new ones restrict vision.

Can't see Worcestershire getting points deducted, elements beyond their own control.

Neither side are playing next week, might as well rearrange the game for then.

Article in The Times today says that Kent are considering making a formal complaint to the ECB because Worcestershire did not consider any contingency plans - the rules apparently are in place. The jist of their argument is that the history of New Road and the time of year meant a washout was always likely & that Worcestershire should have looked at alternate arrangements and possibly agreed to play the game at Cantebury with the return fixture being rescheduled for later in the season. However according to Kent Worcester refused to consider any alternatives.

A tweet claims Trott - who has just reached a double hundred - is actually wearing the new approved helmet.

They've made some good signings so no reason why they can't have a decent season. I hope they do well because it's a shame to see them struggle especially as they have produced - but been unable to retain - a lot of top class players.

Last year, KPs triple ton didn't count, because it was against Leicester.

Yep. Very unfair to both parties. I remember Leicester when I first started watching cricket. They absolutely murdered Durham ( then again most teams did) and Harmison had a fairly awful debut in the match I saw. I remember reading the local cricket journalist Tim Wellock's account of the game - they had racked up a huge score and Durham had started their innings without incident so he nipped up the road to collect his clothes from a laundrette hoping he wouldn't miss much...he arrived back as the groundsman was sweeping the pitch in preparation for the follow on !

tHE DOWN SIDE OF THE TWO DIVISIONS is what happened to sides like Leics, who used to hold on to their better players. These teams do ok in limited overs though, and arguably, that means more now.

Yes, seems as if they concentrate on limited overs and that's understandable.
Think I must have mixed up two matches In that earlier post because looking at the scorecard from Durham v Leicester in 96 there was no follow on as Durham batted first - lost by an innings and 251 runs! http://cricketarchive.com/Archive/Score ... 62787.html
Wellock's story must have been from another game that year.
