Just noticed we've signed an Irish bowler on a temporary loan and we've had a point deducted for slow over rate or excessive farting at the crease.

I thought Tino had retired. Might take a bit to get him fit.

I think he was playing club cricket locally

Just checking his recent outings, to get some sort of feel for how fit he might be and how he's going at his age. Just three first class matches since March last year (plus two List A matches and three t20s). Suggests that he'll be rusty, at best. But hey right now we've in no position to complain.

And actually it's so far so good, because he bowled one over with the new ball for the 2nds this evening, and took one wicket. That said, he did only manage 1 from 2 balls with the bat (slightly worrying that Alsop made 0 from 3 - but thankfully Jimmy made 117. Stevenson played too, making 65. Whether he makes the squad for next week may well depend on Tino's fitness, not to mention Wood's, Dawson's and Ervine's. Plus how Crane, Wheal, and Young all go with the ball).

Jimmy, Ervine and Wood all fit. Dawson fit to bat, but probably not bowl. Looks like Tino for Fidel, but Cranr and Wheal are in the squad too.

Given that he was named in the squad, I can only presume that Ervine's finger wasn't feeling quite right this morning. We'd never have simply dropped him from XI, especially not when he's one of only two centurions so far for us this season.

Big shame, not least because one of the points of having McLaren and Wood in the side is to avoid having a long tail. But they're pretty much playing as batsmen in this game now.

Adams in for Alsop make little difference.

Or you could say it made an infinity of difference.

Obviously want Vince to score heavily, but it will only weaken our already weak batting line when he gets the call.

If it happens, it happens. But no Vince is at least better than a Vince not scoring. At least the guy coming in for Vince (McManus, for example) might be able to do better than a Vince not scoring.

A lose lose situation then!

He's just got out for 25.

Not a great end to the day, but i'd have taken 315/7 at the start of the day, after being put in.

Yeah, very annoying end. We could have been for 450 otherwise (potentially including 400 within the 110 overs).

But at the same time, McLaren and Wood are very much bowlers first. They'll fail with the bat more times than they come off. Being made to pay somewhat for being a batter light. But it was still a very good day before that (christ we've been waiting an age for a Carberry 100), and hopefully Dawson can get his 100 and we can get through to a 4th batting point. I'm not sure that Tino is exactly a 'preserve-your-wicket' sort of tail ender, so that could go one of two ways, but hopefully Tommo and Crane will dig in to try and give Daws as much support as they can.
