And with that third early wicket, we really can start to think about a, say, 100 run win.

And with Ingram out, surely their best batter, it is well on now.

Well done guys, excellent allround performance. Dawson, Smith, McLaren and Berg all putting their hands up for MOTM.

Our NRR goes from -0.137 to +0.467.

Kent have won at the exact same time, with their NRR going from +0.348 to +0.458. That could be huge (in our favour) if Tuesday was to be a total washout across our group.

(And even if it isn't, it still gives us a slender head start should we match each others results)

Must be our biggest win in this competition.

But as you say massive boost to NRR.

Very, very almost. It's our fourth biggest, albeit the top two were against minor counties. If we'd have just conceded four fewer runs, it would have been better than a one-day win at Portsmouth in 1990 against Derby.

Essex five down now. Any close result in that game is a good result for us, but if you had to put them in order I think I'd go with (1) a tie, (2) an Essex win, (3) a Middlesex win.

Seven down, but it's starting to swing too far towards Middlesex. They can win by four or five runs, but ideally not by 20 or 25.

+0.173 drops to +0.150 NRR for Middlesex, so there's now a very healthy difference between us and them. So long as we beat Somerset, it would take a small miracle for Middlesex to finish above us.

Alas, it's still perfectly possible that Essex, Kent and Surrey could all finish above us even if we beat Somerset. Things could become somewhat clearer after Surrey-Glamorgan tomorrow. We need one of four games to go our way, to not have to rely on NRR vs Kent for 4th place:

Surrey fail to beat Glamorgan. Or Kent fail to beat Gloucs. Or Essex fail to beat Sussex. Or Surrey fail to beat Middlesex (but at the same time, if they lose, they don't lose too heavily)

(Some of the above could still result in NRR between us and Kent coming into play for 3rd place, or even 2nd, but who cares)

That match v Derby at Portsmouth 1990 was my very first trip to a county cricket match (and I still have the programme somwhere). And Malcolm Marshall steamed in the following day to finish off Derbyshire in the CC match. Gower, Smith, Nicholas and Marshall. Those were the days!
