Very small boundaries, so only about 100 under par from us.

absolute shambles this evening all round.

first up Tom Alsop given out caught behind when only the 'keeper only half appealed , Ervine , Wheater , Daws all got out to rank bad shots , Slug in particular should have a long hard look at himself for playing THAT shot at THAT stage of the game , as Brendy said , easily 100 short.

Then we get an even worse decision than Alsop's when Bell-Drummond edged behind and the same umpire who has given Tom out say's not out !!!!!!!!!!

to be fair Joe Denly batted superbly for his 100 , we only woke up once we got B-D for 91-1 Wheal and McLaren roughed up Billings a bit , which got a bit feisty for a while , but the fact i'm posting this and its not even 10.00pm tells you everything really.

McManus' limited scores this season read: DND (50), 6 (20), 41 (20), 28 (50), 16 (20), 4 (20), 17 (20), 0 (20), 9 (20), 1 (20), 6 (50), 5 (50)

So basically, since that 28, absolute total toilet.

Would have to be pretty dire bowling to lose from here. These two are basically Sussex's last two batsmen.

Got a little tight in the end, but we're there. Finally got some decent death bowlers in limited overs cricket again.

Win both our games next week, and the absolute worst that happen is that we finish in 5th, level of points with 3rd and 4th Kent and the winner of Surrey-Middlesex (but missing out on NRR) and one point behind 1st and 2nd Somerset and Essex. One point between the top five would be tight! But in all likelihood we'd get a top four finish.

(Only win one out of two next week, and we would need a miracle - not least because of our NRR).

Ervine out for 2 - 3 weeks, having been our next player to get injury in the pre-match warm up this season. Just when we couldn't afford to lose anyone else.

somehow the injury to slug turned out to be a blessing in disguise , Daws captained the side fantastically well , there seemed to be a freshness and lack of fear in the team last night , maybe there was a bit of the younger players who came in having no preconceptions about how to play plus the knowing that they wouldn't be slaughtered in the press by Benkenstein and the fact that it was a dead rubber , but by george was it good fun to watch a Hampshire side playing like that again.

Top top top innings from Tom Alsop , well assisted by Jake Goodwin , who i've got be honest had never heard of

Daws bowled superbly as did BoomBoom , although it has to be said Somerset were very under strength , but our youth looked far better than there youth :salute :salute

bottom v second bottom : in the last 6 years that game has been 2 semi's and one final :no :no :no

Sussex doing us a real favour so far. Yes early stages, with another 90 overs to go in this game, but Somerset losing three of their big four inside the first 10 is great. A Somerset defeat here will not only assist us with qualifying (Tuesday could in effect turn into a straight knock-out game between the two of us), but also it would keep alive our chances of a home QF.

If we do qualify for the quarters does anyone know if where we finish dictates which off the 2 days we play our quarter on? Trying to organise something around that time and want to take as big a educated guess on which day we won't be playing as possible. Also assuming sky will only be televising 2 of the 4 quarters looking at the schedule?

I'm 99% sure that Sky only broadcast two of the four QFs yes, because of the fixture clashing.

I'm not aware that there is anything specific which determines who plays on the Wednesday and who plays on the Thursday, I think it's up the ECB's discretion (with Sky!). I could be wrong though.

But it is worth pointing out that a round of CC fixtures finish on the Tuesday that week (and then a few days later, Finals Day is on the Saturday). Somerset in D1 and Kent in D2 are the only sides not in CC action. The travelling involved that Tuesday evening (given that the matches are 10.30 starts on the Wednesday) may well come into it.

Never bank on your rivals to you a favour...

I suppose the one single upside of Somerset winning this could be that they aren't quite as committed to trying to beat us on Tuesday as they otherwise would be. A top two finish will be in the bag for them with a win here.

Wheater part of the squad for this game but out with illness again. Seems a bit odd.

Couldn't we have played Goodwin (was impressed the other night) instead of Smith given his latest form?
