Craig Overton given a minor punishment for what appears to be a similar breach of discipline that saw Andrew Gale given a much more severe penalty.

Jason Gillespie suggests there is a possibility Yorkshire will seek clarification on this.

Only two differences I think of is Gale used swear words directly at Prince and the altercation continued after stumps. Either way it reeks of hypocrisy by the ECB. Just like the time they chucked Yorkshire out of the 2008 T20 for fielding an ineligible player in Azeem Rafiq, two years later Notts field an ineligible player in Dave Hussey (who made a match winning impact v Derbyshire) and got fined £400!

According to that linked report, Overton used the same swear word.

Maybe Craig Overton can f**k off back to Fraggle Rock and take his useless brother with him.

I have no time for this sort of behaviour. Any racist remarks should be swiftly punished with bans that make people keep their disgusting comments to their own dark minds.

Both Gale and Overton have nothing to complain about, they both got off lightly. They would both be sitting out a season if I had my way.

In all seriousness though, this sort of comment should spell the death of his international chances. If he feels that British Asian players dont belong in CC, then how can he play with guys like Ben Stokes in an international environment.

Maybe Craig Overton does not agree with kolpaks and overseas players obtaining British Passports in order to become domestic players.

Zaidi is neither a kolpak, nor overseas player, he plays as a qualified British citizen with as much right to play as Overton himself.

So if thats the case, Overton must be stupid as well as racist. But thats telling us something we already knew.

Qualified on a technicality after learning most of his trade in Pakistan, even gaining "A" team selection. Where as Stokes moved to England as a small child and played for Durham and England from age group level. Quite a difference on how the two are domestic players.

Not Zaidi's fault he is classed as a domestic player, blame the system not the individual. Overton was stupid to make such crass comments, but being branded a racist is going a bit too far.

They both qualified as British players, maybe you care to inform me why Stokes is more British than Zaidi?

Stokes wasnt allowed to play for England schoolboys or Durham. He was granted his citizenship shortly before his debut for Durham, an arrangement I believe Durham made for him, and after that he made a few short appearances for the U-19 England team. Before that he had been playing in local leagues from 15 for a few years, and his family remained in England solely for Stokes career, after his dad lost his job by attacking a fan at a rugby game. He could have gone back to New Zealand and got a youth deal, but chose England.

Zaidi migrated to Britain in 2001, two years before Stokes, and 8 years before Stokes was a British citizen he was classed as British. He came for the same reason as Stokes father, to work in a local sports club, as player and as groundsman and went back to Pakistan to make ends meet in the FC season when he had a contract. He played 13 years in England before being given a FC contract after smashing apart Lancs League record books by scoring 2500 runs in a season.

To say that one qualified on a technically and the other not, is utterly ridiculous. I bet there are few players you could name me who played 13 years before getting a county contract. It was hardly like Sussex had him apply for a passport simply to give him a contract..... which it seems is the case with Durham and Stokes. Of course, the only difference is one is a Pakistani, the other is pure white thoroughbred born in a white majority country.

I wonder if Overton knew that Zaidi had played the majority of his own life playing and living in English cricket, raising his family here, when he told him to go back to his own country. Its pretty funny actually..... "f*ck off back home, mate"..... "ok, its only 5 miles away and has been my home since you stopped s*itting in your pants as a kid".

If this is not racist, then what is?

Your points are utterly ridiculous, AP.

In fact, I find it very sad that someone would question Zaidi's status as a British National, or as a domestic player.

After playing Sunday League cricket for 13 years trying his damn hardest to win a deal and scrape a living, I think there are few players who deserved a contract more than him. His journey to Sussex is a wonderful story, and should be celebrated.

Not torn apart by some jumped up t*sser from Somerset.

It's perfectly acceptable in cricket to tell fellow players to f### off, that's called sledging: tell them to f### then refer to their race is called racism- by definition of law. Regardless of the difference in Gale and Overton's punishments this is the 3rd occasion that Overton has been reported about his behaviour-clearly this youngster is in need of anger management counselling.
