by the close, Somerset will have bowled 175 overs in the match and Leach and Vaughan will have bowled all but about 30 of them

makes a mockery of the game, imo

Somerset have bowled the min overs required and Hants are 8 down

they are still playing, so presumably they have to keep going until 5.30

a nervy 10 mins for Hants

Barker gets Hants over the line

I look at the 10 points separating 5 and 9 in the table with one game to go and I keep thinking about the overly optimistic declaration, with Pottsy set, against Warks in the second game of the season. Those 8 points we threw away, might well play a huge part in sending us down if the weather next week leads to a load of draws

At least we got the maximum out of today with the 5 points.
You'd expect Surrey to beat Hampshire ( famous last words!) so we might just get away with it.

According to George Dobell the vote on the Championship structure for next season is next week and the result should leak out ahead of the last round of matches! It's apparently on a knife-edge, so there's a chance that no one will end up getting relegated.

Unchanged squad for tomorrow. Hard to see how the bowlers can take 20 wickets so we'll probably need Surrey to do the business and our battery to secure a draw. A draw is fine for Yorkshire so hopefully it'll be a flat pitch.
Surrey's desperation to get a win with plenty of bonus points might give Hampshire more of a chance to win than would normally be expected so I think we are in a precarious position....unless the vote for a 12 team div 1 goes through!

Seems as if there won't be a change to division 1 next year so the pressure is on!

Very glad no changes to the structure! However we will be having the same conversations next season as the powers that be won't rest until it's all changed again!

and hence we are in trouble at 150-5, whilst Hants have skittled Surrey for 147

and nor am I surprised

once again, BR and MP pull us out of the sh1t with the bat

who's going to pull us out of the sh1t with the ball, because judging by the Hants game, Surrey have thrown in the towel, so we will almost certainly have to beat Yorks now and it feels like an age since we last took 20 wickets

Yes, went out this afternoon and hardly dared check the score. I thought before the game we would need Hampshire to lose because I also can't see us winning with this attack.

that missed 3rd batting point might just cost us. Hants who were 2 points ahead of us didn't get any, so in the event of both matches ending in a draw, we could have been 1 point ahead of them and we could have been toasting the rather satisfying symmetry of Hants being relegated instead of us because of ECB penalties.

As it is we now need to take 9 wickets in 110 overs to match Hampshire's points tally, in the event of 2 draws, and I'm not remotely sanguine that we will be able to do it. So if Hants don't lose, we have to win this game and I'm not at all sanguine about that either
