Looks like some decent weather tomorrow so could be a decent batting day. 22 points would be nice but I'd settle for 11 after we won last time out and Dawson and Carberry not available. Still every chance tomorrow we can bowl them out.

On the radio they are saying Sarwan is off the field with a hand injury and they have no idea whether he will bat tomorrow or not. Play for the day has been suspended as I speak. Should be a close day tomorrow.

If we get the full 96 overs in tomorrow, then there is simply no reason to declare before the end of the day. Either the pitch is good enough to score 340 in a day, or we're good enough to take ten wickets in a day on a last day pitch.

We shouldn't need 110 overs to bowl them out (unless the pitch is still good, in which case we need more runs yet), and nor should we need to rely on them playing a few attacking shots and giving their wickets away.

Thanks for everything Pothas. You'll be missed. My nickname for you was apt and I will never forget it. For the last time, arise Sir Nic.

how many times have we seen sides lose a wicket or 2 in a mini-spell before stumps.

It also means we can get more overs out of kyle and tommo, considering coles and slug sounded poor and briggs bowled well without being too threatening, we need those 2 to bowl a bulk of the overs.

If we bat on tomorrow i will rage.

Benks says he wants to bat on for a few more overs, and have 90 overs at them...he says wants to be in a position to not have any doubt about losing.

I really really hope hes lying as some sort of tactic. Either that or Jimmy over-rules him and declares

"If they bat really really well they can win this game"..if they bat really really well on day 4 on a pitch that "some are keeping low and theres something for the spinner" then they DESERVE to win.

I kind of get where he's coming from, its early in the season, we are at the top end of the table not the bottom so we don't need to be chasing wins that desperately yet. Plus draws are worth more this season. It looks like weather wise it will be a perfect batting day, not sure how worn the pitch is but he may be concerned that it is still true enough to score 340 in 96 overs relatively easily. I'm a bit on the fence with where the game is at right now, but I guess if it was my choice i'd probably declare before play starts today but its a close call.

I see where the logic lies, but they still need the highest match total, and we have 2 inform bowlers, 1 of which is currently arguably the hottest test prospect around.

It favours us if they feel they can chase it, setting 370 in 90 overs and they will come out blocking, also its more than likely that we will lose our 2 wickets in the first over or 2, add 0 runs and wasted 3-4 overs for nothing.

I do like games going into day 4 with 3 results possible.

Or even 4 (four) possible results if you include a tie.

I know I would be unhappy if the opposition batted on if they were in Hants' position (Lancs did it quite often a few years ago & usually it worked for them & they bowled the opposition out) so I would feel the same if Hants bat on today.
Essex & Kent have batted poorly in their second innings but I think Leics will make us wish we had a full day (weather permitting) to bowl at them if we waste time scoring 5 runs in 30 mins today - inc time between innings.

Surely batting on says too them "this is a good pitch to bat on" whereas declaring says "we have enough, we are going to win this", someone once said "cricket is 80% mental and 20% physical" for me that applies here.

If they win, they have batted well and deserve it, and I'd be okay with that.

4 over bash to give them 90 plus it keeps their openers on edge.

Coles moves onto 68, which equals his topscore for us ( he does have a ton for Kent )

83 now with 2 ball until we SHOULD declare, wonder if we will give him another over to try and reach 100.
