The temperature stats suggest the heat hadnt got over 20 degrees until yesterday, beforewhich Sussex had amassed 600/6 and had 4 century scores. This is nothing to do with the weather at all, it was standard temperatures and clear that pitch was dead as door nails.

Warwickshire's attack was well below par with Barker missing and Wright far from his best this year. Chopra had spin at both ends after about 25 overs.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

I'm no expert on pitch preparation so not sure if it's solely the groundsman' s fault. Sussex have been having a pretty lean time of it lately, Warks must have fanc :halo: ied their chances so why would they deliberately prepare a no result pitch?
Barker' s absence would be a big blow but Warks weren't aware of that until the Eve of the game-he was fit to play T20.

that's what I like to see..... a terrific contest between bat and ball

problem is that cricket authorities around the world are now equating big scores with entertaining cricket

bring in the boundaries, that's what I say....... 40 yards should do it....... I've always loved a mishit edge that sails over the rope.

As Ravi *modded* Shastri, Mark hey, hey, hey, Nicholas, and Danny the complete knob Morrison would say..... "what an amazing shot..... brilliant cricket..... MDF, EDC, CITI, WOW, incredible.... this guy really makes the bat sing....how priviledged you are to watch this, and how lucky we are to get paid so much for spouting so much bollox"

They're using the same track for next CC game v Yorks. They reckon there's not a mark on it.

The groundsman did prepare another wicket. However injury to Keith Barker meant Dougie Brown opted to play on a wicket already used twice for Twenty20 matches, thinking it would take spin.

The drainage systems on test grounds just take all the moisture out. The Great British weather makes it very difficult to produce a spinning wicket.

To paraphrase Dougie Brown....

"Sussex have been shite with the bat on all surfaces and hopelessly out of form, but their pace attack has shredded a few teams, and they have no spinner. Lets produce a slow wicket with no bounce and make a stack against this strong attack, and hope their top 6 fold like a deck of cards again.... "

No hint of a pitch inspector despite the fact this game was able to take place on a pitch that was never producing a result. Its sad how crap the CC is at times.

Worcestershire looked well on their way to victory against Notts earlier this afternoon but now seem certain to lose after a dramatic collapse-7 down with over 100 still needed and looks as if Alex Gidman won't bat.

Obviously with Hants position in mind I was following the Notts v Worcester closely up until Worcester were 170 odd for 2, just checked the score to see they collapsed to 210 all out. Remarkable. Haven't worked out what was a good result for us. To be honest I doubt it matters a jot, reckon where we are right now will be where we are in 7 games time.

The club has hardly been positive about the return of either of them. This season is becoming a write off, we have had some terrible luck

This statement is contradictory, is it not? The top layer of a cricket pitch is made of a substance that shrinks when it loses moisture, so if drainage is drying out wickets, the effect would be that the clay content in the soil would shrink, and you would find pitches are breaking up a lot more and cracking all over the place. The more they dry, the more they shrink, the more they break up and crack.

A flat and well constructed pitch is completely unaffected by a drainage issue, so if pitches are lifeless drainage is not the reason.

You had Mills back last night which will be a asset if he can remain fit.

Bit too technical this for me but I would have thought the quality of drainage would have an effect on the quality of the pitch. Durham' s groundsman has complained that since our new system was installed he has difficulty with the grass binding because the moisture was draining so quickly.
