Six for Gurney against Durham. A win for Durham and defeat for Yorks and Middx could make the run in more interesting.

Yet again Yorkshire's lower-middle/lower order making up for the failings of those higher up.

Looking at Day 1 highlights at The Rose Bowl, Yorkshire posting 275-9 is far from disastrous on a wicket with shades of green and already showing foot marks frmo the bowlers. Lees played a poor shot, Lyth was done by a superb catch, Gale got out to a good delivery, Lehmann played an innings of chance and got himself out, Bresnan was also out to a good ball.

If Yorkshire can somehow sneak 300 in the 1st innings, I'll be pleased.

Spin playing such an important role on the first day at Edgbaston is not a great sign for Warwickshire who may bat last on this pitch. Time to pull their collective fingers out in this innings to try and avoid that scenario. With a middle order weakened by the absence of Ambrose, the top five heed to take responsibility.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

Yorkshire taking three Hampshire wickets in the morning session, but undoubtedly their best batsmen in Vince and Ervine are at the crease and are going along nicely with a 69 partnership.

James Vince brings up his 50, last time he did was in the opening fixture against Yorkshire in April (went on to score a ton)

Vince is out, but Ervine and McLaren feel like the big wickets.

Apart from Westwood, who couldn't buy a run earlier in the season, 172 looks pretty grim with a 5 fer for Rayner. Last 7 wickets for 50 runs and Middlesex already 50-0.

Still a chance to knock over Yorks' inconsistent batting.

You do know who you're facing, right? No chance are we chasing anything less than 300. Probably closer to 400.

(Unless you're willing to gamble that the forecast for Saturday will indeed turn out to be solid rain, and are therefore open to treating this game as a three day match. In which case you might declare with a lead of less than 300.)

Yorkshire were 143-5 in the first innings, which is pretty typical. Turn that into 200 all out, as must be possible, and there's an outside hypothetical chance of a conceivable chase. Yorkshire would still be favourites, but not overwhelmingly so. I accept Hants are at the lower end for a reason, and that probably excludes big run chases, but there are players there who could do it, on the right day.

Looks like draws all round. A shame as three of the games (and the one in CC2) promised exciting finishes.
