Middlesex are hanging in there. And how we need them to.

Held out quite comfortably in the end. They looked doomed earlier in the afternoon.

Anyone else slightly surprised that Wheal hasn't been picked in the Scottish squad for their series with the UAE? He's performed for them in the few matches he's played and hasn't done his reputation any harm recently with his limited overs games for us (particularly the T20 on sky).

Interesting to hear that there's a possibility of Fidel returning before the end of the season.

Carter makes his debut in our biggest CC game since our last visit here, in the final round of matches last season. Win it, and we'll be back in the hunt. Lose it, and D2 it will be. We've won the toss and will bat, so no having to bat against Tahir last.

Well no-one can complain about our RR this time. Been going a long at 4 per over all innings so far. But on the flip side, we're 2 down this time rather than 0 down.

Looks like Notts made the right call going with Wood rather than Fletcher.

Two wickets before lunch make it a poor start to our innings. Good strike rate, but we'll still get bugger all batting points because we'll run out of wickets instead of overs this time.

Now the late order collapse is on.

Crane can't bat to save his life. A very weak tail if he's at nine.

Probably concede a ton when he bowls!

Yep, very bad tail. Fortunately though it should be for the last time this season. Vince will presumably not play a part in the limited overs stuff for England, so should be available for all four final games. And Slug is expected to be fit for our next game. I'm not sure who the second player to make way will be (Alsop maybe, he's just tailed off a very small amount recently?) but the first will presumably be Carter or Wheal. Three seamers, two spinners, plus Slug is enough options. (Not quality options of course, but at least sufficient in quantity).

Could not have asked for a better morning, even if we don't take another wicket for the remaining 36 minutes of the session.

We've already started asking around to find an ex-Somerset seamer for next week.

Six down. Utterly fantastic. In his FOURTH Championship game of the season, Wheal finally gets his FIRST wicket.
