Make that two wickets, Gubbins departs and two fresh batsmen are in. The Australian smiler is at the crease.

Three day win for Warwickshire puts Surrey deep in the mire. Ten wickets for Jeetan Patel weaving his magic once again.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

No wonder Surrey are trying to make more signings! It must have been a total thrashing.

If Surrey sign any more players they could field two separate sides given their strength in depth!

The salary cap certainly doesn't appear to apply to Surrey given their current staffing levels and the fact that they can still increase it.

It's becoming very clear the Haseeb Hameed is a future England player

We're a long way of being able to say that yet! He's had a decent half season on his introduction to Division 1 cricket, plenty of others before him have done that then fallen off them map.

I hear he is the most boring batsman in the world to watch. I dont say that at as a criticism, but a proper old school batsman actually willing to play himself in and grind out innings.

He's a fantastic opening batsman, but one that you feel would not work alongside Cook in the current England team. Very solid technique and has the shots to punish bad balls, but the wisdom to know which ones to go after. Even at County level players eventually work out a way of dealing with that approach, so we'll have to see if he can develop when sides change their approach.

Looks likely that this round of matches will all end as draws.

It's been a positive draw fest so far this season.

Keeps the table as tight as a tight thing in tights.

Yes, half way through the season and almost 2/3rds of the games draws. A lot of 4th days meaningless instead of the match deciding spinners' wickets that was intended through the toss change

Middlesex are trying their best to force a win at Scarborough. Roland Jones and Murtagh threw their bats in gay abandon as they added 94 runs in 30 minutes, creating a Middlesex lead of 177.

Yorkshire 45-1 in reply.

Listening to the radio commentary I didn't get the impression that they were just wild slogging but power hitting. Your description of throwing their bats doesn't do them justice.

There is a difference between wild slogging and batting with a care free approach. Middlesex were hardly going to bat for much longer with only a days play remaining.
