Am I the only person who thinks the Surrey v Somerset result yesterday feels a bit dodgy?

Surrey gave up 75 odd runs to a 10th wicket partnership where one of the batters literally couldn't stand up between balls without using his bat as a walking stick, and who could literally not move his feet. Then, despite only needing to score 2.3 an over in almost a whole day and being a comfortable favourite to chase down the target, they inexplicably decided to bat out a draw making absolutely no attempt at any stage to score any runs, and were scoring 1 run an over even with Somerset having 11 men around the bat and free runs everywhere.

Then, with the day ending, overs all but bowled, and the odds of a Somerset win being about level to the odds of the second coming of Jesus occurring before the end of play, Surrey lose 7 batsman for nearly as many runs in a huge collapse right at the end.

I'd be inclined to see all this as a freak occurrence were it not for the fact Surrey's most experienced and influential player was convicted under the ICC Corruption code and banned for 2 years for his dealings with illegal bookmakers.

Let's just say the way the last 100 odd overs played out, a few nicely placed bets would have made you an absolute mint.

Sussex have Gloucestershire 56/6 after the first hour.... one foot in Division 1 at the moment!!

Although judging on the previous games we have played in Bristol, 56/6 might be a world class effort. Everytime we ever played them back in the day, it felt like a death trap wicket.

poor stuff from Warks. They're 7 down for almost nothing and it doesn't look as though the Essex spinners are even going to get a go.

and yet..... Warks have selected Briggs, which they don't do that often, so they must have thought there'd be something there for spin.

Lunch in all the matches, but across the board 31 overs were not bowled this morning. Essex only bowled 25, the rest ranged from 28 to 31

maybe this is what Key was trying to achieve when he wanted county cricket to better prepare players for the England test team, but if it was, then only the Essex bowlers have been fully committed

good time for Surrey to be playing Durham, with no Potts, no Raine, no Carse, no Coughlin and not much of an OS. Leaving us with a dutch allrounder, two rookies and Parky to bowl Surrey out twice. If we don't score big in the first innings we might as well go home, and at 144-5.... we might as well go home
