McCarthy can bat but probably all or nothing - likes to go for his shots I think.

Five for Patterson. Durham have enough runs on the board that the game is unlikely to be decided on the first innings. Should be an interesting last hour.

Warwickshire set off like a train then hit the buffers. The buffers were Croft and Brown with an unbroken century partnership.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

Yorkshire bowlers did well and despite two novices in the attack they still managed to build pressure.

Interesting to see how Shaw did returning from Gloucestershire to Yorkshire; offers an insight into any gulf between the two teams. Bresnan and Patterson building that pressure for you can't hinder you though either. Ben Coad did well too and will thrive in the experience.

Ballance seems in good touch - and on a bowler friendly day.

From what I saw the wickets were down to excellent bowling building pressure and inducing mistakes. It was a good day for batting but Durham weren't good enough. And then the Durham bowlers were unable to keep the batsmen under pressure, those 2 late wickets might just make it interesting but it will take something special in the morning to prevent Yorkshire taking the game away.

Steven Patterson has got to be the most under-rated bowler in County Championship cricket, how much he has improved in the last four year is beyond belief and it's most likely down to Jason Gillespie's influence. Originally Patto was a containing bowler, now he has turned into a strike go to bowler.
"Stats are there to be broken" Dominic Cork
"They took all our players away, banned our captain and we still came away with a ten-wicket victory" Jason Gillespie
"You won't get anywhere slouching about half out of bed" Geoffrey Boycott

It was a Riverside pitch of old after the recent rain so if you bowled good lines consistently you'd get rewards as both Patterson and Rushworth typically did. I suspect as the pitch dries it'll flatten so this mornings session will be crucial. If Onions can support Rushworth and contain Yorkshire's lead then game on but,I suspect,Rushy will get little support and Yorkshire will get a match winning lead.

That's the most likely scenario imo.

Good fight back, and Bresnan running out of partners. In a low scoring game, this could be a handy lead, but if it flattens out, it might be manageable for Durham.

All depends if they can bat sensibly - a big improvement required after yesterday's debacle! Need to get the last couple of wickets first and that's often something they struggle with.
