Late on the uptake, but a splendid day of cricket at Headingley yesterday. Thought Durham batted very well, in particular the top 3 rotating the strike on a regular which kept the scoreboard ticking over nicely.

Conditions changed significantly as cloud rolled in, meaning Yorkshire had to graft for their runs where Durham enjoyed batting in beautiful sunshine. It was imperative for Root and Bairstow to stay at the crease for as long as possible, because it was not a wicket where batsmen could easily score from the off. Root took a bit of time to get going, but provided good foil for Bairstow whose batting strike was always above 100 even in quieter periods. Though Bairstow got a reprieve on 72 where he was dropped by Stephen Cook with a regulation looking chance at long off, probably put off by the rowdy members in the North-East lower.

As Bairstow past 100, he found a new level by being quicker with his hands and feet. It took the faintest of edges and weakest of appeals, but Bairstow's frustration spoke loudest as he turned round in anger towards the pavilion when he looked so good for a double century. Handscomb and Ballance were initially contained, but it took three streaky fours in an over for Yorkshire to regain control.

Thanks for that AP-1st detailed report of the match that I've read. Increasingly difficult to obtain these particularly for away games. Most we can hope for in Durham regional papers is a generic summary obtained simply by reading the scorecard.

Maybe Pujara was waiting on an IPL contract, two years ago he joined Yorkshire as a last minute replacement for Younus Khan. Most counties do their player businesses in the Autumn and want overseas players who can play as much of the season as possible.

cricinfo said pujara said no because he wanted a break and was hoping/practising for an IPL contract.
no surprise he had few offers already considering he would be available for most of the county season now or would have been.
Arthur doesn't start till champions trophy.
only signed for june so far.
playing 4 county championship games possibly 6 if Aus reach final.
Great deal for notts that.
get to have Pattinson and Pujara in Div 2.

Today's game at home against Notts could be make or break time for Warwickshire if they want to defend their RL cup title. So far this season they look like a team destined for the lower reaches of the CC Div 2.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

A complete overhaul (of course) for the Yorks team and a poor start v Worcs. Without Joe and JB2, there can't be much confidence that they can chase anything.
