Jack Shantry who had a career best of 55* has now bought up his ton to leave Worcs in a decentish position.

Fair play to Worcs, to set Surrey something reasonable from their position took some doing. If Surrey fail to chase it down, they are officially out of the race. And at the same time Worcs will almost be mathematically promoted. Leaving a straight shoot out between us and Essex.

If Surrey win though, we have a four way fight to the finish. With us leading the way, despite being in 2nd.

Oh of course, I was only adding 16 win points to the table on BBC - taking them onto 230 and a lead of 45 over Essex in 3rd. But of course they also have five bonus points already in the bag, so in fact they would move onto 235 and a lead of 50 over Essex in 3rd. With only 48 points left.

Surrey meanwhile would be 24 points behind us, with only one game (and hence 24 points) left. But so long as I recall correctly, the first tiebreaker is number of wins, and Surrey would lose out on that.

Not to mention of course the chances of us picking up no bonus points in either of our final two matches, whilst losing both, would be practically unheard of.

I seem to recall a county getting no points from a CC match a few years ago but twice in a row can never have happened. If the weather ruined consecutive matches there would still be points for a draw.

Still hoping for for a Surrey win. I know it's all about going up - and the Doncaster / Bournemouth point was well made - but I would love us to go up as champions. Going to be pretty tense down at New Road,

Surrey have decided to make a game of it in the afternoon session with the loss of three quick wickets.

You'd think they will still do it if you ignore what happened in their first innings.

Moeen and Shantry were the same combination that ran through the middle order first time around.
