Catching up with the highlights of our game at the weekend, I have to say that Hampshire's pitch is a flat out embarrassment for a test venue.

The middle looks like an April green top where the groundsman have left long grass to dry/die out, and you couldn't trust any of the bounce in the game, seamers bowling too short having batters whacked on the pad as the ball dies. Then from one end, there is a huge dry patch running on the line of the channel outside the left handers off stump, and the odd ball just takes off. Then, particularly at one end, the green gives way at a length to a barren, Saharan dustbowl the likes you'd consider extreme on a Day 5 pitch in Galle during the Murali era. Each ball accompanied by a dust storm after hitting the pitch.

Carson got one ball that pitched outside off a fair distance, and nearly ended a leg side wide.
