Talk of Big Ottis' innings 10fer against Hants reminds of the time Graham Onions was on for a 10 wicket haul with 2 to get against Notts and he ran Fletch out before clean bowling the last batsman. He said at the time it didn't matter how the wickets fall and maybe he'll be remembered just as much for not getting an innings 10fer as he would have done if he'd got it

That was in the happy days when England sent players back to their counties if they weren't selected to play in a test match, instead of keeping them.... just because

Sadly, the damage was already done by England before sending him back. Another exceptionally talented fast-medium bowler of that era that England destroyed in the pursuit of 2mph extra through the air. Without the injuries, I think Onions could have got to Anderson's level... at his peak in CC he was unplayable, especially when he got the counter inswinger going as his alternative ball. Would set batsman up with the away swing, then bam... one comes in and rips out your stump.

I'm going to assume that England pulled the plug on his participation in this match, which if it is the case, is quite frankly ludicrous. He's been out of sorts for the bulk of the first two matches, but he seemed to finally get everything working again on Sunday and looked as though he was just getting a bit of rythmn back and now he has to sit on his @rse and wait for that rythmn to disappear again

we're doing okay against Australia Glammy, but losing Robinson is a blow after a fairly rapid 73

Seemingly Campbell said on comms that it was our decision to rest Matty P. I don't believe that for a moment... makes no sense whatsoever

excellent end to the day with Carse and Trev adding 81 runs in 21 overs whilst seeing off the new ball. 382-6. 4th batting point seems reasonably assured and nothing to lose in going after the 5th in the morning.

Clark aside, everyone got some runs, so I'm guessing the pitch is a flat one. Probably a good idea to include 2 spinners.

unless..... and I'm only guessing here, because of the 2 spinner thing..... unless Campbell had been advised that England were going to rest Potts at some point in the next week or so, looked at the pitch in Cardiff and decided to take the initiative, keep it out of England's hands, and make sure he's available for the home game against Derby.

That could be it, could be a case of him being available for 1 of the next 2 games.
We will wait and see what happens but bowling first seemed a surprising choice..Think we've been asked to bat in every game so far and have responded well , even though I think we should have made more at Hove.

Durham were without England prospect Matty Potts, with the paceman left out in the third match of the season after talks with the ECB about his workload.

So it looks like that was the reason. England presumably were going to pull him from the Derby game and we decided this pitch was so docile that we could manage without him here instead. Fair enough. England get what they want, but we oblige them when it suits us
