Still fancy Essex with Napier and Bopara, hope we have a long on in place.

So near and yet so.

At least it was an interesting fourth day for a change.

Our season well and truly on the edge of the precipice.

Bloody hell and buggeration with dollops of shite.

Shame that we couldn't quite get over the line, but these things happen. For that many wickets to fall inside two sessions - and almost all of them to spin, at that - certainly suggest that the pitch had the biggest say in things. And as an away side, there's nothing you can do about that.

Given that we've only won one of the last five Championship games, I think it's a good thing that we now have a month off from Championship cricket. Tommo in particular can put his feet up, one presumes.

Due to this month's break now, I presume that'll be Rimmington's one and only Championship appearance for us. Unless we decide to ditch Maxwell from our one-day plans over the coming weeks, they'll be no reason to retain Rimmington once we've played our final two t20 matches over the next seven days. And hence he wont be around in a month's time when Kent away comes along.

Thanks for everything Pothas. You'll be missed. My nickname for you was apt and I will never forget it. For the last time, arise Sir Nic.

A narrow Surrey win, arguably the best possible outcome for us. Somerset lose, meaning that we will qualify with a win on Friday. And Surrey's NRR falls a bit, from 0.65 to 0.62.

Yes it does pretty much put a home QF beyond us, but so what. It's not the end of the world, just as we proved in 2010 and 2012.

Not that it's a method of progressing to be proud of, but if Somerset fail to win both of their last two matches, then one rained off match for us will also put us through.

Other teams doing us favours seems the only way we are going to progress in tournaments right now. Need a spark from somewhere to change our fortunes and the form of certain players, because pretty much everything was going our way until mid June, since then its been all going the other way.

With Worcs winning & us losing it shows the obvious difference between us with 6 wins & no defeats against 4 wins & 1 defeat.
Our T20 form has crashed - a member told me last night that our batsmen instead of being content with 30-0 after 6 overs end up at 50-5 - something I've commented on before. Hopefully we can turn the season round but tight margins are against us atm - perhaps an Ashes-type urn needs to be prepared for the 2014 season?

I wouldn't be surprised if the ropes come in again tomorrow. I think Sussex will play Beer regardless of that, he's in such good form, it should be an exciting game.
