If we can set them 200-250 by 2.30-ish then anything could happen.

Yes I think its getting to that stage in the season where we have to look for wins in these fifty fifty situations even with a limited number of overs left in the game. At least it would mean a bit of fourth day interest for a change.

As I alluded to previously, if this was two games further into the season, we'd have Essex by the short and curlies here. If we were in a position to set them, say, 270 off 30 overs, they'd have little choice but to try and go for it. And in all likelihood they'd burn through their wickets trying to chase that, and we'd win.

But we're not two games further into the season. Essex still have four more games to come after this one. They don't need to press the gamble button just yet. The very last thing they can afford is to lose tomorrow.

As for what I think will actually happen, well unless the captains get together to contrive a run-chase that is fair for both, I suspect we'll go in with the mentality of securing the draw first and seeing where we are at lunch. If there is the prospect of getting 35 - 40 overs at them, with the draw in the bag, we'll no doubt take it. But right now we're still a first session batting collapse away from losing this match. And if we did that, it could single the end of our season.

Glamorgan starting to collapse to Will Beer somewhat. Yes a Sussex win does (just) keep their chances alive going into our game against on Friday, but it also keeps Glamorgan below us. This is their game in hand, and chance to overtake us. Them slipping up is much more important than Sussex being mathematically knocked out before Friday.

Never forget that every team in D2 is in D2 for a reason.

If a team didn't have it's own internal faults and weaknesses, it wouldn't be in D2.

Benks' interview tonight is interesting, talks about possibly setting them 200 odd with 40 overs left, as it will be tricky to bat on.
