Caught Panesar, which about sums up our morning.

Probably should have done, but the team aren't in a good place right now, and he probably wouldn't have made any difference this morning. Never know Rimmington might score some runs or skittle Essex out.

Finding players in form must make selection a nightmare.

They used 8 bowlers in that first session.

I noticed that, very strange. You generally see that sort of thing when the batting side are 456 for 3 in the 123rd over, not on the first morning of a game when the batting side is falling over like skittles.

It seems quite bizarre but it obviously worked. Inspired captaincy by the guy who allegedy was offered the Hants captaincy a couple of years ago before we went for Wheater?

This current partnership of 25* for the 8th wicket is comfortably the second biggest stand of the innings - after over 50 for the 6th.

But nice that Wheater is putting on some runs on the board today while everyone else falls by the wayside. Partnership with Rimmington has passed the 50 mark and now 9 bowlers used. Will Foster take his gloves off and have a bowl?

At this rate perhaps the umpires will? :)

The Carberry innings stats seem even weirder looking at it a couple of hours later - surely a contender for the Boycott/Tavare/Crawley Defensive Innings of the Year?

Looks like Rimmington was the right selection.

I guess Wheater has got inspiration playing against his old county.

200 up! 100* for Wheater & 100+ partnership! :clap

I just hope this come-back doesn't conceal the glaring cracks (chasms?) that Hants have revealed in their form in recent weeks.

Oh well Rimmington and Briggs can hopefully get us past 250.
