My word! Broad strikes and there are two balls left.

So close from the Beverley Wall!

What an exciting finish, even if it got a bit tense with Jacky Brooks facing the last two balls.

Why bother going to the IPL to enhance limited overs skills when you can just try and chase 320 off 53 overs on Day 4 of a County Championship match?

I know we are only 3 games into the season, but the table is looking very unusual with only 9 points separating top from bottom.

Weather hasn't been overly terrible but we have still had 11 draws from 13 matches.

Flat pitches because of the new toss rules probably a big factor. Weather has been poor at Chester - le - Street with 4 days washed out in 2 games!

Good point about the pitches.

I'm still ticked off by our one point deduction, as we'll need every one to avoid relegation.

I'm assuming it's for slow over rate but I've not seen anything confirming that.

Warwickshire have yet to play a game that hasn't been rain affected and most other teams have suffered so that's the cause of most draws. I don't believe the pitch theory, any team with powerful bowling will want a pitch helpful to them and there's never been a certainty that the home team will win every toss and bowl first.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

Thought point deductions were a thing of the past now Willey had retired. Cricinfo suggests Hants declared at tea to get a chance to get their over rate up. Seems pretty pointless(pun not intended) then to bowl your seamers in what was a meaningless session. Understandable then if the umpires were a bit peaved about that.

We got deducted the point against Warks, not Yorks. We never had the opportunity to bowl a second time against Warks and try and get it back. To be honest, we did well enough in the end to only have one point deducted. At one point during the Warks first innings we briefly hit -4 on the over-rate. Hence the 8 overs from Smith, and 1 from Alsop, in addition to Dawson's 27 overs (which only actually resulted in one wicket).

Do we put it down to Vince's inexperienced captaincy?

Absolutely - if a team has a quality batting line up, they can afford to produce a wicket which has some assistance for the bowlers. I can't see counties continue to produce flat tracks all season, it's far too negative and a County Championship win is the equivalent of 3 draws.

One thing which is has struck me is the type of player making the England squad of late, it's mostly batting whilst the next bowling sensation is yet to be discovered. Even at county level there are more batsmen coming through than bowlers, maybe that is the reason why we are seeing high scoring innings.

Yorkshire name an unchanged squad for the visit of Surrey tomorrow.

Gale (Captain), Bairstow (Wicketkeeper), Ballance, Brooks, Lees, Lyth, Patterson, Plunkett, Rashid, Rhodes, Root, Wainman. Willey.
