Yep. He's had a few starts but not yet managed a big score.

I'm sure the batting coach will use the time wisely and sort out any minor flaws. :scared

You mean miner flaws-good at digging holes for themselves!
2nds are playing Yorky 2nds in a 3 dayer this week. Pringle and Richo are fit and another opportunity for Cameron Steel.

Steel still must be the most likely to succeed in the dreaded opening role if Bancroft insists on staying at 3. Let's hope he gets runs this week.

compare him to Labuschagne for Glammy. 650 runs @ 65 with 3 x 100 and a 50 plus 11 wickets and 6 catches

Bangers has 200 runs @ 23 with 1 x 50 and 6 catches

if he's in a fight for an ashes call up, he's losing it. Which would suit us, tbh....... although knowing our luck he will plod along like this and then score one big doubler just as Australia find themselves a Khawaja or a Marsh short in the days before the first test.

I'm not too bothered about the CC (we are so far back that it no longer matters), but I think he will be brilliant for us in the T20 alongside D'Arcy S and we'll make it all the way to finals day :box

Quite possibly. I wonder if that blow on the head during the pre-season tour has affected Steel's confidence.

Undoubtedly, it was a massive blow. Ball ricocheted to mid off from his helmet, that's from one of his team mtes.

That does sound nasty. Bad enough trying to bat on our pitch at the best of times but if that blow is still causing issues he'll probably find it impossible. Let's hope he can find a way through it.

I'd have thought that not being able to let go of the bat was a good thing

except at a toilet break, of course..... or bedtime

I'm hoping that the 'other' Bangers will wake up when we get to T20. A change of mindset might be just what he needs.

Yeah. It might do the trick. Chances are one big CC innings will get him going but he's in the situation where everything goes against him - the one top class batsman in a hopelessly brittle lineup where half of the games are played on a notorious batting track and with the dreaded uncontested toss rules. And captaining a bowling attack who specialise in letting opponents off the hook.
Apart from that everything is in his favour!

Yeh and giving him the captaincy with the baggage he was already carrying and also having to adjust to Riverside pitches all added to the burden. Additionally by all accounts he's an intense and rather introvert individual in the dressing room which also negates against his suitability to be captain. Can't see anyone on the staff who can guide him remembering North was pretty much an unmitigated disaster on Riverside pitches and our designated batting coach hasn't even any 1at class batting experience.
The yips is simply a generic term for any sportsmen who loses his ability, it doesn't solely refer to bowling in cricket. Looks very much that Bangers is suffering from it. Doesn't look as if the weather is going to relent either and he'll be playing on WACA type pitches.
I wonder if he might develop "a slight groin strain" before our next game.

Also telling that the two other candidates North had in mind were new additions to the squad. The reasoning being none of the other batters were sure of their places. So that surely meant that the squad wasn't strong enough.
If Eckersley is given a contract extension - logically he will be so that means he probably won't - he might be a good choice as captain next year.
