not a conspiracy... just obvious

the year Durham owned up to breaking the wage cap, and were censured, they were only 3rd on the list of highest spending counties. Surrey was one of them, and I reckon Yorks were the other

I'd be very happy to be wrong about Brathwaites salary, btw, but I'd put an awful lot of money on his wages never appearing on the clubs wage bill if I could get decent odds.

the odds would be terrible though, I think

I reckon Yorks have gone pretty light on overseas pros this season. Only one at a time at the club in the CC, and a couple in the T20. If they are only paying the pro (Handscom, Marsh) for the time they are there, then it's only the same as one pro being there all season?

Not that I'm claiming Yorks aren't utter crooks. I'm reflexly cynical about the business veterans who take up the boardroom jobs in sport.

Their overseas pros are certainly light on performance. Handscomb averaging 33 in the CC and Sarfraz 13 in T20. Also bowling attack(Coad excepted) of 30+ hasbeens no doubt on inflated salaries. Huge salary bill, a £40m debt, underperformance on the field and Yorkies are in denial about any problems.

Given that overseas players can be recalled by their parent clubs or cricket board at short notice and this has happened repeatedly in recent years, I envisage the players to be paid based on time spent. Otherwise Travis Head would have got paid for doing nothing!

Handscomb's duration at Headingley wasn't necessarily a fixed one. Originally it looked like he was going to leave late August, then be able for the entire season due to the Australian player contract dispute, eventually he was called up to a training camp early August. Shaun Marsh was originally contracted for T20s, but ended up being the main overseas player before Western Australia wanted him home for a pre-season training camp.

I don't think Yorkshire would have paid significant amounts of money for the Overseas players. Handscomb is yet to be proven at international level, Brathwaite is an unknown quantity and Sarfaraz has no real credentials in T20.

Which surely begs the question "Why did they sign them in the 1st place?"
Mind Brathwaite has played 39 tests with 6 centuries and an average of 37 opening the batting. That's hardly an unknown quantity but whether a W.Indian can adapt to the North of England in Autumn must be high risk.

I wasn't having a go at Arthur over Brathwaite, I think I was just in a bit of a contrary mood at the time. Sorry AC

27 to win. 6 wickets left. I'm beginning to hope we haven't thrown this match away.

what did Northants get a 5 point deduction for?

calling Strauss a canute?

can't be, they'd have got a 50 point deduction for that.
