The Indian press is one of the least free in the world, and this is just part of a patchwork of government propaganda that is prevalent. Gavaskar has a portal to the outside world through his status, but the news indicates this is far from unique. There seems to be a huge backlash against this in India, but that has to be taken in the context of what is being reported being controlled. This is Modi and his party wanting to portray anger, or stoking people specifically to be angry. Great people to involve in the national game, ay. We have a proto-dictator from another country now cranking the agenda machine on who domestic cricket sides pick.
I'd say it would be all worth the money, but then again Sussex are apparently bankrupt while still being owed 28 million quid from the ECB. I guess Modi can decide how we spend that as well.
