His Test batting average is now 49, so I guess his first goal will be to get that above 50, so that he can at least have a batting average comparable to the great Viv Richards.

Once again, the fortunes of the WIndies will revolve around how well Shiv bats in New Zealand.

He says that Shiv told him to take his time, and hit the bad balls. Shiv says that he needed to do as he does - bat, and bat, and bat.

Now, why don't the other WI batsmen take that advice?

No, I don't think so. I mean the accents throughout the region aren't so different that it would be like some from northern scotland trying to communicate with someone from the American South for the first time. And having played matches throughout the region any player who makes it to the WI team must have gotten used to the accents and pecularities of any dialect by now.

I think it is more that the others just don't listen. Sarwan and Gayle are already established so they wouldn't need guidance from Chanders (although it might help) and Chanders probably wouldn't offer it since both are capable of scoring centuries on their own. The rest probably just don't listen, or maybe they do but they aren't really letting it sink in.

Chanderpaul has replaced Sobers as the third-highest run-scorer in Tests for the WI....

He just needs another 464 runs to take over from Viv Richards in second place.

"I never look too far ahead. I just try to keep it simple and stay as calm as possible. I keep putting in the hard work day in, day out," Chanderpaul said. "I'm work on my balance a lot. Once it's working I just stick with it. I also try to work on my strengths and try to make them better."
