Since making their respt Test debuts
M Clarke 11 Sheffield Shield games
K Pietersen 9 County Championship Games
MSD 0 Ranji Trophy games

tweet from mohandas menon

Similar results found in all the current indian players.

MS Dhoni 90 Tests from 2-12-2005 to 30-12-2014 in 9 yrs, 29 days
During this period just one domestic fc game - Irani Trophy in Sept 2008

Pietersen isn't one to take as a standard when it comes to playing County cricket. Most England players play one or two games a year at the start of the season. Nothing like the pre central contract days where if you weren't playing for England you were playing for your county.

yep but that still the same amount of games available to the Indian players assuming they choose to play the games.
Tendulkar stopped playing in his last 5 years and dhoni play 1 game all career.

Article yesterday was basically saying because of the schedule none of the young/inexperienced played much first-class matches and basically learnt the entire format in test matches and found none of the current Indian teams played a game for like 2-3 yrs some even touching 4-5 years.
England young players that get into all formats would have the same problem that they never play enough first class cricket to continue learning or improve technique/kinks in the armour because of too much cricket/mad schedules.

I believe even if you include Cook games it would still only be around 20 first games probably even less if you exclude warm up games to make it more fairer comparison to the Indian/Australian counterparts.

How many centuries has Steve Smith scored in this latest series? I've lost count. Is it 3 or 4?

4. Could make it five, if they bat again.

It's not too often that a Sheffield Shield match is open (as in timing) to the incumbent test players - there might be one or two earlier in the season, depending on what the national team are up to overseas. Often lately the visiting team arrive in Australia before the Australian side prior to the test season beginning, such is the packed international schedule these days.

So I am not very surprised at the number of domestic 1st class fixtures Clarke has been invovled in since becoming a test regular. A few times he may have opted/been told not to play a SS game - for rest - but not very often.

I think Agnew is right (though I normally don't have much regard for his opinions). I'd say that opinions expressed at a funeral are private and not suitable for discussion, but in this case they were broadcast around the world. And his point is one that many Australians will agree with-the way their national team plays, increasingly, isn't popular, in my experience. Agnew is giving Australia a chance to remain true to their first instincts.

But two issues. Obviously Australians don't want to hear this from an outsider. Like a stranger telling you your wife has put on weight.

Why isn't he applying any scrutiny at all the the England side, and its behaviour, and other issues, including bullying?

those to me are the important points , altho I think our opinion on whether sledging has a part in the game might differ as well

I don't have a problem with banter out there as long as it doesn't cross lines , sportsmen tend to be pretty competitive people and in the heat of competition cant really be expected to not say anything

Screaming in the face of the opposition. Threatening violence. I don't appreciate those.

Trouble with the line is it's movable and imaginary.

Not sure what Agnew was expecting, but he realistically can't think Australia's on-field attitudes will change overnight even after a tragic death.

Well worth a read I think - rather puts Agnew in his place:
