We were over the road at Willen Lake for the race for life. I would have had a look if I'd have known. Sounds like a good day.

We just missed each other, Ginger!

Malcolm was a bit bulky, but not overweight. His run is much shorter, but the ball still came out of his hand like a bullet.

Me and my old man dropped into Wantage Road one summer in around 2000 on the way back from a summer trip. Malcolm was playing in his last days at Northants, he would have been close to 40 years old if I had to guess. We'd watched a lot of cricket live back in those years, seen everyone in the scene....

Even at near 40, he was miles and away the quickest. Its the only memory I have of the match.... me and Dad being in awe of just how quick he was.

Remember C4 having a speedgun contest for a Darren Gough testimonial (I think). Malcolm won that, though retired.

Must be getting on a bit Clive. I once had the pleasure of meeting Viv Richards....for some reason I always thought he was 5ft 8, probably because guys like Big Bird make everyone look like a midget. He was actually quite tall, which shocked me.

Nice guy though.

Met Jonty Rhodes once too, walking around WTM in London dressed like crocodile Dundee. He was very surprised I knew who he was and was happy to have a chat. Seemed a very nice guy, but equally an oddball.

The most miserable cricketer I met was Mike Gatting. Seemed like a right idiot

Good one Mike. Not surprising it was the highlight of the day, cricketing royalty right there - especially Lloyd, imo.

Australia cancels the ODI series it has against Afghanistan due to Afghanistan showing no sign of implementing woman's cricket. This is a must for all full member countries. Obviously the ACB and many of its players are complaining about this and calling it political. I for one am glad though that CA have done this and hope other countries follow suit. To be a full member then you must have womans cricket. Simple really.

I have read the excuses and obviously the problems run deep and i am sure the ICC will turn the other way when some countries will play against afghanistan.

Our club here in Lund have 5 Afghanistan refuges, both men and woman. And all are extremely happy with the stance that CA have taken and that all other countries follow their lead. One sighting the sport blockade against SA as a reference to what sport can achieve when a country discriminates against large part of their own societies.

Yes, of course it's political. So was refusing to play South Africa, or Zimbabwe in more recent times. Good on Cricket Australia (and it's not often I say that).

More than just women's cricket, apparently it's in protest over the Taliban's stance on female education. Again, good for Australia to take a stand (although the cynics might of course question whether we'd be so principled if it was a nation with more clout in the cricketing world).

Naturally this has resulted in the Afghanistan regime calling to 'keep politics out of sport', the cry of anyone who's been called out by sporting events, and generally the sign that whoever is invoking it knows they don't have a leg to stand-on, or they'd be offering a genuine counter-argument rather than trying to persuade everyone to look the other way.

And Rashid Khan has immediately responding threatening to pull out of the BBL in a hissy-fit, and therefore implicitly supporting his government's stance on women. Ok, I understand it's difficult for him and the Afghan team, regardless of their political views they have to live there and under that regime, but he didn't have to say anything at all. If he does support the Taliban's regime against women, then frankly, yes, he can *modded* right off from the BBL.

Agree.

Im guessing the BBL is Rashids biggest pay day so looking forward to seeing how strongly he believes in this. And if he stays im not sure his comments will make many teams look to sign him next time. SO hes burnt his bridges there.

The best thing Australia could do regarding future tours is actually plan woman's and men's tour together when playing Afghanistan. If ACB can not fulfil one match then no series takes place between either mens or womans teams.
