Random Cricket Thread (International Cricket)

What's buzzing in the world of cricket....

India can give what it wants of its own revenue, but them getting 3-4% of ICC money back is surely irrelevant. Money presumably goes to the ICC to distribute to those who lack it. India giving money to the ICC and then taking it back is pointless. If India (or the ECB) took 0% from the ICC funds, I wouldn't be surprised. If India wants to give less to other nations, then I suppose they are within their rights. Though they will suffer if they lack teams to play against.

So, they threatened to create their own ICC?

Of course, the "I" in this instance would stand for India, which may as well just be the BCCI.

I don't think any cash is contributed by the BCCI it's that they claim 68-73% of ICC revenue comes because the Indian public are the biggest source of revenue via TV and advertising for ICC events. The ICC own the TV and advertising rights for the WC, T20 WC and the CT events and the BCCI want a bigger share.

OK thanks!

I see (now) their point of view, but surely the concern of the ICC should be the future of the world game. The BCCI then keeps the money they generate from their own internationals, which must be quite a pile.

I do find it a little hard to believe that 78% of the ICCs revenue comes from India, or in other words that all the other series and games played amongst the rest of the the international teams accounts for only 22% of cricketing revenue.

There are some answers here. Also wondering, as I did, why the BCCI has a right to the money that the Indian public generates.

It's matter of all revenur from cricket, it's only about the ICC revenue it gets from organising world events. Revenue from games in the various countries goes to those countries and no one else.

Ian Bell is a well deserved England cricketer of the year. Presumably only Stuart Broad also came under consideration. But I think I would have nominated Bell for his consistent scoring in the home Ashes series.

Probably well deserved but in the article he set himself targets that leave him a "hostage to fortune". Making hundreds rather than 50's or 60's is what he must do, so he's set himself up to fail, as if he ends the year with an average of 60 without scoring a hundred he's failed. Are Sports people born stupid or is it the world they occupy that makes them say foolish things.

I don't think anyone will hold Bell to his word. He's not a natural in front of the mic, and he probably found himself repeating some coaching mantra. But he is a leading bat, with Cook, and he'll be expected to provide a batting lead out in the middle.

I suppose Bell had a good year in ODIs. I tend to forget about those.

Perhaps this 'call to arms' is his Theresa May moment, putting his hat in the ring in case Cook fails to 'win the next election'.

Former Australian all-rounder, Gary "Gus" Gilmour has died, aged 62. Possibly from complications following a liver transplant he had a couple of years back.

While he mightn't've had a stellar test career (15 tests), Gus was a player who was popular and well liked by team-mates, opponents and fans alike.

Sorry to hear this. He played in the Centenary Test, but otherwise, slightly before i started watching cricket (just had to separate him from Gary Cosier in my memory). A name I often hear mentioned. Took nine wickets in his only game in England. Looks like a good pace bowling all rounder, at a time when Australia were strong in that area.
