Collier's leaving the ECB. Don't suppose Clarke or Downton will do the same.

A big nod for Simon Katich with his retirement. A very good player who seemed to not have enough backing from his national coaches.

I was disapointed we didn't get him back this season. A very good player whose career happened at the wrong time.

I was listening at the time but being a naive sort of fellow living a sheltered life and not up with all the sexually related jargon or twitter I had no idea what they were talking about.

Something happened with him at Hants, but I can't find out what, Kevan James said on commentary a few times "there was a reason Hants didn't ask him back"

Still, a very good player.

Interesting, it seemed to be reported at the time that Kattich turned down the opportunity to stay.

News that Mahela Jayawardene is due to retire from Tests after Sri Lanka's series against Pakistan. Averaging over 50 in Tests, and one of the heaviest run scorers in history, he has had a fabulous career. Probably won't go down as a world great given the reputation for being a lion in Asia, but maybe only a puma elsewhere...
Took a lot of catches too.

Maybe not in England, after the recent series, but I would be willing to bet that he is a well respected individual in International Cricket circles, as well.

A great servant to Sri Lanka cricket for many a year.

Average of 50 at home, dropping to just 41 away from home. A master on the burners of the Murali era in Sri Lanka, very average everywhere else. In Sri Lanka a hero, everywhere else recognised as a key wicket.

His stats will mark him as one of the modern greats, those who have seen him will see a very good player not quite in the class of Kumar.
