Arguments that Crowe is one of the most important players for a team in the history of the game. I only remember the 94 series vs England where he scored back to back hundreds in that series. He was still young now, so he couldnt have been much over 30 when he retired in the mid 90's.... any idea why he called it a day so quickly?

Can't say I ever saw Martin play, but he sure got the Eden Park crowd on their feet with a rousing speech when he was induced to the ICC Hall of Fame during the World Cup Group stage match between New Zealand and Australia.

When I was at uni in Bristol a friend of mine had a fling with a very respected cancer research doctor. We sat in a bar in Park Street one night when I met him, and he basically told me "smoke what the f**k you want, drink want the f**k you want, and snort everything thats going because, if your genetics are bad, you are dying young..... and if not, then smoking, drinking and your lifestyle might delay it a few years, but not for that long"....

His opinion was..... lifestyle has such a low impact compared to genetics, do what you want...if your pre programmed to get cancer, you will get it.

Sad to see Martin Crowe has left us so early , though of course I knew he was very ill. He truly was one of the greats of NZ cricket - and in his time an outstanding batsman ; not to mention his innovative captaincy skills.
