The SAf 2nd innings was almost just as lopsided with Amla's ton again a giant amongst pygmies.

Kapil Dev against the fearsome pace of Donald and the injury prone Schultz.

I see that Cronje too played a fine knock in that match.

Looks like quite some knock. The mind has no problems imagining him counter-attacking with glee and guts.

Low scores, I remember reading about this one..............

For lopsidedness, have a look at cronje's knock in free states second innings;

I'd forgotten this thread but Eng's 1st innings certainly qualifies. I wonder how many times in a 400+ score Mr Extras has been 3rd highest scorer.

Well this match also involving Pak qualifies with Mr Extras being the second highest score in a score of 435...but still it must be a reasonably unusual occurrence.

It's happened a lot more than perhaps we thought.

1) Eng v Aus March 1877 ----- 1st test ever. Aus -- C Bannerman 165 out of all out total of 245.

2) Aus v Eng Feb 1888 ---- Aus scored 42 in 1st innings -- highest score 10 -- Extras 7 third highest.

3) Aus v Eng Jan 1894 ----- Eng scored 75 in1st innings -- Highest score 30 -- Extras 11 second highest.

4) And perhaps the most remarkable -- Aus v Eng Feb 1894
Eng scored 65 in the first innings with the highest score at 20 and Extras 12 -- the second highest

Eng scored 72 in the second innings with 17 the highest score and Extras 13 -- the second highest.

This amounts to 25 in extras out of 137 in total or 18.25%

Great research Albondiga :thumb

However with all of the above it doesn't surprise me about the large presence of extras because the total scores are quite low - with obviously lots of individual low scores. Therefore the chance of extras outstripping so many of the rest of the team is increased.

Thats why I put in the original parameter of 400+ scores because I would think the chance of Extras being in the top 3 of scorers must be reduced in such a large score. However as soon as I typed up the post I remembered that Georgetown test where WI offered up 71 extras (which arguably cost them the test) and a quick check confirmed my suspicions.

Sorry GIP --- I missed the 400+ bit;

An offshoot of this would be 400+ and NO EXTRAS OR AT LEAST NO BYES - I believe Kirmani has done it but what say you ??
