Kwibuka Women's Twenty20 Tournament

Postby The Professor » Mon Jun 07, 2021 8:13 pm

Women's cricket returns to Africa as Rwanda host Botswana, Namibia, Nigeria, and Kenya in this natty little tournament.

Namibia beat Rwanda today despite the Rwandan bowler Sifa Ingabire getting a very respectable 3-10. Despite these decent figures, Rwanda could only get to 58 in their 20 overs.

Namibia have now won both their games to top the table. They also boast the highest run scorer (Arrasta Diergaardt) and the highest wicket taker (Victoria Hamunyela).

Nigeria reached the semi-final of the  Kwibuka T20 with total dominance.

Despite the best efforts of Botswanan debutant Jacqueline Kgang who got three wickets to frustrate them, Nigeria progressed to the semi final where they will meet Namibia.

Nigeria still.had work to do in the final over thanks to Kgang not letting anyone settle, but made it to the target of 106.

Kenya won the morning game against Rwanda.

Highest run scorers and wicket takers remains unchanged.

Kenya pulled off a suprise by mauling Namibia in the final. The unbeaten Namibia team were all out for 69 in something of a walk over for the Kenyans.

The 3rd place playoff between Rwanda and Nigeria was a more rewarding experience for the observer.

Gisele Ishimwe's 39 helped Rwanda to 112 for 5. Nigeria always seemed within one good over of taking it but eventually a late flurry of wickets saw them lose by 8 runs.

Sune Wittmann finished the tournament as top run scorer with 167. Sarah Wetoto's 6 wicket haul in the final match saw her finish top of the wicket taking rankings.
