'England will leave until Wednesday the decision on whether to go with the proven Ashes pedigree of Broad or include Curran at his expense'.

That would be mad. Broad is our best bowler against Australia. Have Curran in the team and leave out Burns.

Roy Denly Root Stokes Bairstow Buttler Curran Woakes Ali Broad Anderson.

Obviously Anderson is having a great extended end of career, but how has Broad been going lately?

Is this series to be the last hurrah of either of them?

both of them, i would have thought

only injury would see either of them left out, surely?

Broad has been left out recently. His spot is vulnerable.

Anderson has been bowling about as well as ever. But you often hear that older players are hanging on for a last Ashes before they retire.

I would be surprised if either of Broad and Anderson tour again, but I could see both playing home summer cricket next year. Get the feeling with pace, relative strengths and stamina, neither are going to be great on flat decks away, but with swing and seam on offer at home, I dont think England have yet to find a bowler with their craft to replace them. Always a believer that you encourage a guy to retire when hes got nothing left to give.... Broad just took 7/70 last test, and Anderson's home record in the last 10 years is all time great level.

Ok, if they cope a pounding this summer you re-evalutate, but if both do well Id be having words and giving them more limited roles to keep them around.

Keep on seeing people saying Khawaja is about to play his first test vs England.

Isnt this his 4th Ashes tour?

He debuted in our away victory, he definitely got ripped apart in 2013 vs Swann, and I am sure he played away in 2018......

Good research.

He made his Test debut against England in 2010-11 covering for Ponting who had a broken finger. The coverage kept cutting to his anxious parents all the time.

Agree with this. Horses for courses. Nice to have options for different conditions.

Broad has a great record at Edgbaston, against Australia in general, is in form and is a better bowler than Curran.

Leaving Broad out for Curran because Curran might get you 40 odd runs at number 9 is ludicrous.

Remember he played a couple of pull shots and the aussie commentators were acting like they had another bradman on their hands hahaha

and yet, exactly the sort of thing that England have done in the past

and they must be worried about the batting, I reckon

well, they are worried, of course, because they've forced Root to move up to 3

maybe the talk is just to get Broad fired up before the first test.

not sure Broad did a lot for Notts in the CC, but then some players who have played at the very highest levels do struggle to get themselves bulled up for the mundane stuff

Broad is in alongside Santiago and Woakes on his home ground. Jos has the gloves, which I thought was YJB's in tests

Gentle Ben at 5
JB2 at 6
YJB at 7
Moeen at 8

I've forgotten which way round JB1 and JB2 are, which is why I prefer YJB

A few head scratchers there? Presumably JB1 (Bairstow) has a niggle.
