there has been a MASSIVE amount of hooha over it is Aus, with Pat Cummins copping some incredible amounts of vitriol in the media, and in comments on social media.
Cummins was on a hiding to nothing, imo, when interviewed on tellie the week previous - when pressed to back Langer, he dodged the question, saying that was CA's decision to make, not his.
The biggest criticism that has come his way has to be taken with large grains of salt - Matthew Hayden was teary in his interview, but anyone who remembers their partnerships will remember the bromance these two have/had, and Mitchell Johnson was using the more damning words (a fair bit like most of Mitch1's bowling career - balls going in every which direction, but going fast and furious). Every single ex-player who has been highly critical is an ex-colleague and teammate of Langer.
While some people have come out in support of Cummins, absolutely no-one has spoken in support of Cricket Australia's part in this fiasco. It seems to me that they had decided 8 or so months ago that they were not going to renew Langer's contract - that decision itself is not so crazy, and can easily be argued for - but stringing Langer along with no effective communication, despite intense questioning about it all in the media for the past 12 or so months is much, much harder to justify.
There is no doubt though that Golden Boy Pat has lost a lot of his lustre in the public's eye. It will make each and every slip up scrutinised so much more closely from now on.
