Big showcase finals are a real opportunity for young players to make their mark in selectors minds.
Today Colombo, who have been unbeaten all throughout the tournament, beat Dambulla in the final of the Sri Lanka Provincial Under-19s One Day Tournament.
The final, a repeat fixture of the very first game of the tournament, saw a big score from Ahan Wickramasinghe who got 127* batting at 4 as Colombo got to 303. In reply Dambulla could only get to 242.
In his four matches across the tournament, Wickramasinghe scored 290 runs with only one score below 50.
"It has been said of the unseen army of the dead, on their everlasting march, that when they are passing a rural cricket ground the Englishman falls out of the ranks for a moment to look over the gate and smile."
