So the large number of pace bowlers in the squad doesn't even cover injury. Because when someone got injured (Robinson) they called someone else up.

Anderson and Robinson rested. So is it ?

1 Crawley
2 Duckett
3 Pope
4 Root
5 Brooks
6 Bairstow
7 Stokes
8 Broad
9 Potts
10 Wood
11 Leach

Maybe McCullum might want to look at Woakes or Tongue instead of Wood. Stokes might bowl some time in the summer.

I'd have Stokes at five. Doesn't feel that long ago that he (and Root) were England's only dependable batters. Feels a bit sudden to be shuffling him down the order.

Will Wood play? Surely England would prefer he gets injured v Australia rather than injured v Ireland.

i reckon they're more likely to pick Woakes than Wood

I'm wrong again

Tongue starts

cue lots of tedious journo's hoping he tears into Ireland so they can use tongue lashing in their headlines

Tongue for Wood in Slipstream's team. Interesting attack.

Little bit of a surprise there but probably shouldn't be. Understand Tongue is a bit quicker than a lot of the pace options so that probably has more to do with his selection than just the fact that he got Steve Smith out in the CC :)

They want a stable of pace men for the Ashes so seems a reasonable idea to give him - and Potts - a run out in the Ireland game. Don't expect Stokes to bowl much or at all unless he has to , so expect these two young fellows to take a fair bit of the donkey work off Broad's shoulders.

Experimental, as alfie suggests

Wood is fit and they must think that he won't play all 5 Tests so need a reserve for him. In Australia he played 4 Tests.

The question must be do you need experience of Test bowling to play in the Ashes or is pace and bounce enough? Even if Tongue doesn't do well against Ireland they are talking about him for the Ashes.

If England's A attack is Anderson. Robinson,Wood, the Ireland game has the B attack.

Stuart Broad might not agree with that !
