Might have been Warney who came up with that, but I thought it was Ponting. I was using it as a reason why he might not take on a big coaching job, but I see he's done some IPL.

It was Warne who famously had a terrible relationship with Buchanan, and took every opportunity to put the boot into him.

don't think he thought much of the idea of a boot camp either.... preparing for an ashes series by building rafts out of oil drums after a day's hard walking over some lumpy old piece of terrain in the blistering heat or the driving rain

Wonder if those types of camps still go on! Never popular with the players. I bet Indian batters never went on them.

Indeed. As the legend goes, Warney was told he couldnt take his cigarettes, which didnt go down well. Eventually a compromise of sorts was found where Buchanan told him he could take cigarettes but for every pack he had to sacrifice something of value in his bag....

So Warne just threw out all his clothes and took his 20 decks. :lmao

I think it was Michael Clarke who said they were camping at night, and all they could hear was Warney shivering in his sleeping bag half dressed, while chain smoking the cigarettes he brought.

There are still in the pathway for English cricket development. Not sure the national team advertise them much now, not after the videos of Steve Finn emerged looking like he was suffering from PTSD while being forced by SAS men to do moronic things. Idiotic nonsense to me...

We won the Ashes in Australia 2010/11 after that camp in Germany. Three warm up games in Australia as well. Perfect preparation.
They did some stupid surveillance course in England that was a waste of time and that was the end of the camps.

I have enjoyed the direction this thread has taken.

I thought it was Warney who came up with the quip about coaches as well. Apparently Key has since embraced it, at least if cricinfo is to be believed.

Rob Key admires Bayleaf the gardener :?

after all the Bayleaf white ball focused strike rate nonsense that started this decline of the England test team, I find that a little alarming

sounds as though we are going back to the days when batsmen walk out to the middle, 4 down for not many, the focus will be on imposing themselves on the bowlers..... I remember how well that went last time

What about the selectors, most important.

I imagine the Coach will be on the panel but not the captain. Hope Taylor and Bobat are nowhere near it. Once the selectors choose a squad that should be the end of their job, not advising/selecting the XI. Coach and captain to decide.

I would think a panel of 4 including the coach.

Still no captain. Will Key decide or will the new coach appoint him?
